Centrifugal Casting of Nano Crystalline TiB2 Reinforcement Particulate Reinforcement in Al-Alloy Matrix
Abstract: A method of producing Nano size TiB2 particles within an aluminium matrix is the in situ reaction synthesis method, using KBF4 and K2TiF6 potassium based bearing fluxes. The advantages of this in situ reactive process are a small particle size and good particle/matrix interfacial bonding. However, this method is limited to producing low particulate volume percentage material (˂6 vol%). To overcome this limitation, centrifugal casting has been investigated. A series …

Influence of Aspect Ratio on the Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Vertical Centrifugal Cast Aluminium Silicon Alloy
Abstract: To get a sound cast of precise shape and size in the vertical centrifugal casting process, the flow behavior of the melt and process parameters such as aspect ratio of the mould, rotating speed, volume fraction, etc. must be optimized. The optimal parameters of the vertical centrifugal casting process derived from past cold modelling studies in casting of Al-12%Si alloy are investigated in this paper. Casts were obtained using 7 …

A Mini Review of Synthesis and Applications of Functionally Graded Materials
Abstract: Material composition or microstructure varies gradually along the thickness over a specific volume in functionally graded material (FGM) that results in spatial change in properties like thermal conductivity, strength, stiffness, electrical, magnetic, and light properties, etc. Application of the concept of FGM leads to a single product that has multiple properties in it as demanded by the operational or functional requirements of the product under service conditions. It also allows …
