Utilization of Banana Peel Biopolymer as a Natural Coagulant for Wastewater Treatment: A Sustainable Approach to Bio-Composite Applications
Abstract: This study explores an eco-innovative approach to wastewater treatment by utilizing banana peel powder (BPP) as a sustainable, low-cost bio-coagulant. Although effective, conventional chemical coagulants like aluminum sulfate and synthetic polymers are often non-biodegradable, toxic, and economically burdensome, particularly in decentralized or low-resource settings. In contrast, BPP—an agro-waste material rich in bioactive functional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, and phenolic compounds—provides a renewable and environmentally friendly alternative. To enhance its …

Gas Sensors Fabricated using Carbon Powder Derived from Dried Banana Peels Waste to detect Methanol, Ethanol, Acetone Vapors and Carbon Dioxide Gas
Abstract: Low cost and environmentally friendly activated carbon powder was synthesized using waste banana peels. Phosphoric acid was utilized as activation agent. Doctor blade method was employed to fabricate films of activated carbon on conductive or nonconductive glass substrates. Films were subsequently annealed at 70 0C for 30 minutes in air. According to XRD patterns, single phase of activated carbon was crystallized in thin film form. Carbon prepared from banana peels …

Critical Overview: Preparation of Bioplastics Using Different Reinforcement Fillers
Abstract: The widespread use of synthetic plastics poses a significant threat to the environment due to their nonbiodegradable nature and reliance on nonrenewable petrochemical sources. Among these, single-use plastics are of particular concern as they are difficult to recycle efficiently. To mitigate this issue, bioplastics offer a promising alternative, as they are derived from renewable sources and are biodegradable. Bioplastics are produced using natural materials, such as plant, animal, and microbial …

Combustion Characteristics of Waterlily (Nymphaea lotus Linn.) Briquettes
Abstract: The effect of binder types (bananas, yams, and cassava) and binders proportion on thermal properties of waterlily (Nymphaea lotus Linn.) briquettes were investigated. Peels from bananas, yams, and cassava were collected from agro processing cottage industry. The peels were washed, sun-dried, and ground using a disk mill and Tyler sieves to a particle sizes of 0.50 mm. The waterlily plants were collected from the river using a drag net, sun-dried, …

Application of Fruit and Vegetables Peels as Functional Ingredients in Baked Cookies: A review
Abstract: About half of the waste produced by industrial fruit and vegetable manufacture is in the form of peels, cores, pomace, and unripe or damaged fruits and vegetables. Many fruits and vegetables, including citrus, apples, peaches, pears, bananas, pomegranates, berries, mangoes, and sugar beet, have peels, pulp/pomace, and seeds that contain concentrations of phenolics and other phytochemicals that are typically much higher than in the edible tissues of those fruits and …
