Hydrodynamic and Sedimentation Modelling for Capacity Optimization of OR1, OR2, and Fertilizer Berths at Visakhapatnam Port, India
Abstract: This study presents comprehensive hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling undertaken to assess the impact of proposed deepening and development at the Western Arm of the Visakhapatnam Inner Harbor, India, encompassing OR1, OR2, and Fertilizer berths. The work, carried out by the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) for the Visakhapatnam Port, utilized the MIKE 21 Flexible Mesh (FM) finite-volume model to simulate hydrodynamic and siltation conditions under existing and …

From Baseline Survey to Management Plan: A Systematic Framework for Port-Specific Mitigation of Underwater Radiated Noise
Abstract: The growing recognition of underwater radiated noise (URN) as a significant marine pollutant necessitates the development of actionable management frameworks at the port level, where noise sources are concentrated, and impacts can be particularly acute. While international guidelines exist, a standardized methodology for ports to transition from assessment to implementation is lacking, particularly in regions with high biodiversity and developing maritime infrastructure. This paper presents and demonstrates a systematic, four-phase …

Hydrodynamic Assessment of a Proposed FSRU Development in the Visakhapatnam Outer Harbour
Abstract: This study presents a detailed hydrodynamic assessment of a proposed Floating Storage andRegasification Unit (FSRU) in the Visakhapatnam Outer Harbour. A depth-integrated, two- dimensional hydrodynamic model was developed using MIKE-21 Flexible Mesh (FM) to quantify theinfluence of the terminal layout, dredged pocket configuration, and vessel presence on tidal circulation, freshet-driven flows, and extreme-event conditions. Baseline simulations were performed using existing bathymetry and operational geometries, followed by proposed configurations that included …
