Reaching Conditions for Discrete-time Sliding Mode Control: Analysis and Design
Abstract: Sliding mode control (SMC) is a robust control method widely used in engineering due to its ability to handle uncertainties and disturbances effectively. In discrete-time sliding mode control (DSMC), system trajectories are constrained to sliding surfaces in the state space, leading to improved performance and stability. This paper provides an overview of DSMC, focusing on its applications, advantages, and limitations. It discusses the use of DSMC in various engineering fields …

First Order Sliding Mode Control of Coupled Tank System
Abstract: This paper investigates the challenging problem of liquid level control in Coupled Tank Systems (CTS). CTS, characterized by its nonlinear behaviour and sensitivity to disturbances, presents significant control challenges. This report suggests and assesses several control measures to solve these problems. Mathematical models are developed to capture the system's nonlinear dynamics, and controllers such as Proportional-Integral (PI) and Sliding Mode Controllers (SMC) are designed. The PI controller effectively regulates the …

Sliding Mode Controller-based Load Frequency Regulation for a Two-area Interrelated Power System
Abstract: This study presents the use of the sliding mode control approach for power systems load frequency regulation. A sliding mode load frequency controller is part of a two-area power system. Both reheat and non-reheat. These two regions each have a distribution of thermal turbines. Nonlinearities such as governor dead region and production rate limitations are included in the block diagram of a power plant model. Our control objective is to …

Research to Improve the Performance of Position Control System Using the SPMSM Based on the Time-varying High Order Sliding Mode Control Method
Abstract: This paper proposes the method of position control system design using permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) based on the time-varying high order sliding mode control (TVHOSMC) strategy. In the conventional sliding mode control (SMC) system the chattering phenomenon appears in the vicinity of the sliding plane and while the error state of system reaches the sliding plane, the system is sensitive to the external disturbance and the parameter change. Thus, …

Sliding Mode Control of SolidWorks Designed Robotic Manipulator Co-simulated in MATLAB
Abstract: This study proposes a Sliding mode control (SMC) algorithm for controlling three degrees of freedom (3DOF) robotic arm. This concept was inspired by seeing the increasing of potential applications of robotic arm in automation industry, mainly in the applications like pick and place. The 3DOF robotic arm is designed in SolidWorks and then it is imported to MATLAB for simulation purposes. Initially, simulations are done by using the conventional PID …

Advanced Control Techniques: Super-twisting Controller Applications and Insights
Abstract: Sliding mode control (SMC) provides robust control for uncertain systems. This study focuses on the Super-Twisting Controller (STC), a powerful SMC technique known for its finite-time convergence and robustness. Its importance is to provide chatter-free control and robustness against uncertainty, and make it suitable for systems with nonlinear dynamics and disturbances. The advantages of STC are faster speed, more accurate control actions, and enhanced system stability, though may require careful …

Design and Implementation of the Double Fed Induction Generator in Sliding Mode
Abstract: These days, WECS is crucial to the production of electricity. Variable-speed wind turbines are the most often utilised type of wind turbine (DFIG). However, these machines are sensitive to voltage disturbances because their stator is directly connected to the grid. The oscillations produced in electromagnetic torque, active and reactive power during disturbances could damage the mechanical and electrical parts of the machine. Several control techniques are produced to control these …
