A Study on Ecological Parameters in Selected Village Ponds of Sivagangai District, Tamil Nadu
Abstract: The present investigation reveals physico-chemical parameters and avian fauna of Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu. A total of 3063 individuals of different species of birds have been cited belonging to 29 families during the year 2015-16. Selected water parameters such as temperature, total dissolved solids, turbidity, EC, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide etc. were analyzed and found variations throughout the year. In the present study the total dissolved …

Effect of different concentrations of mercuric iodide on the growth of Microcystis spp.
Abstract: Cyanobacteria are commonly called as blue green algae which are abundantly distributed in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem. They are procaryotic autotrophic organisms and have thallus structure. Such organisms are actively involved in the biological nitrogen fixation which can fix the atmospheric nitrogen and converts into ammonia compounds. Plants can utilize such converted components for their growth and metabolic activities. Since they are diazotrophs which is the suitable supplement to …

Impact of Mercuric Iodide on the Growth of Phormidium spp.
Abstract: Cyanobacteria are microalgae which are freely distributed in aquatic environment. They are photosynthetic organisms and can fix atmospheric nitrogen under anerobic condition. Such cyanobacteria have been applied as a nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture to improve the crop yield. Since the application of chemical fertilizers in crop fields created heavy metal pollution which could be neutralized by microalgae under aquatic environment. They have ability to tolerate the heavy metal concentrations under …

Blue Green Algal Species Isolated from the Paddy Field Soil of T. Athikarai, Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu
Abstract: Algae are photosynthetic organisms grouped under thallophytes of lower plants which grow well in water and on moisturized soil. There are different types of algae belong to different classes such as Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Xanthophyceae, Phaeophyceae, Rhodophyceae and Cyanophyceae. Among these cyanophyceae members are more important in agriculture for enhancing the nitrogen assimilation in crop field. Since they are applied as a biofertilizer in such field. In the present study, soil …
