A Study on Ecological Parameters in Selected Village Ponds of Sivagangai District, Tamil Nadu

Abstract

The present investigation reveals physico-chemical parameters and avian fauna of Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu. A total of 3063 individuals of different species of birds have been cited belonging to 29 families during the year 2015-16. Selected water parameters such as temperature, total dissolved solids, turbidity, EC, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide etc. were analyzed and found variations throughout the year. In the present study the total dissolved solids and salinity were found very low. It was also found that the most of the physico-chemical parameters of the waster of studied ponds favours the growth of many organisms includes algae, planktons, insect larva, fishes, molluscans etc. which ultimately attract birds towards pond and adjacent region.
