Corrosion Behavior of Ferrous Materials in Different Characteristics of Water
Abstract: Corrosion is one of the major problems affecting the performance, safety and appearance of metals. In the present study, the corrosion of ferrous materials like mild steel, aluminum-coated mild steel and mild steel with aluminum (sacrificial anode) are studied in different types of water (sea water, bore well water, synthetic sea water) for a period of 90 days. The experiment of these metals brought about significant changes in corrosion rate, …

Assessment of Suitability of Inland Wetland Fishes in Gujarat, India, for Human Consumption: A Focus on Organochlorine Pesticides
Abstract: The work described in this study evaluated the organochlorine pesticide (OCP) residues in the inland wetland fishes of Gujarat, India, and their suitability for human consumption. Among the various OCPs analyzed, isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), γ-HCH and β-HCH were detected in 70%–80% of samples. The p,p’-DDE, metabolites of DDT were detected in higher load. Of the nine species of fishes tested, the maximum load of ∑HCH and ∑DDT was recorded …

Variation in Persistent Organochlorine Pesticide Residues among Various Tissues of House Sparrow, Passer domesticus, from Tamil Nadu, India, during 2001–2006
Abstract: ABSTRACTThe present study focuses on persistent organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) on various tissues of house sparrow, Passer domesticus, from Tamil Nadu, India, between 2001 and 2006. The major compounds quantified in eggs, liver, brain and muscle tissues are hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethylene (p,p’-DDE), dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (ΣDDT), dieldrin, and heptachlor epoxide. The mean concentrations of ΣPCBs, ΣHCH and ΣDDT in eggs are 0.94 ± 0.66 μg/g and 0.35 ± 0.26 μg/g respectively on wet …

Effect of Corrosion on Flexural Strength of Reinforced Concrete Beam: An Experimental Study
Abstract: AbstractThe main aim of this experimental study is to investigate the effect of corrosion on reinforced concrete beams, particularly on load deflection behavior, load carrying capacity and crack width by using with or without epoxy coating on the steel surface. Accelerated corrosion technique was adopted to corrode the beam experimentally. The corrosion was measured using the Open Circuit Potential (OCP) measurement instrument. A total of 14 simply supported beam specimens …

Unani Medicine and Yoga Therapy in the Management of Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Case Series
Abstract: Dysmenorrhea is the most common gynaecological disorder in adolescent women, as the incidence of dysmenorrhea is highest with estimates ranging from 20 to 90%. Recurrent short-term school absence is the leading cause of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. Curative options in conventional medicine for dysmenorrhea include NSAIDS, oral contraceptives and surgical interventions, but because of the adverse effects, of NSAIDS and OCPs more and more patients are opting for alternative methods …
