Performance Analysis of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger using Engineering Equation Solver
Abstract: The following paper consists of extensive thermal analysis of the performance of Shell and tube heat exchanger under various configurations. To serve the purpose a simplified model of shell and tube heat exchanger has been designed using kern’s method to cool the water from 55°C to 45°C by using water around room temperature. Then we have extrapolated the performance analysis using the EES (Engineering Equation Solver) software to simulate the …

Application of Hill Climbing Algorithm for Optimization of Plate Fin Heat Exchanger
Abstract: This paper demonstrates the application of Hill Climbing algorithm for the design optimization of Plate-Fin Heat Exchanger (PFHE). Maximization of the effectiveness and minimization of the total annual cost are considered as two objective functions. Thermal modelling is done by ε-NTU method to estimate the heat exchanger effectiveness and pressure drop. Fin pitch, fin height, fin offset length, cold stream flow length, no-flow length and hot stream flow length are …

Development of an Arduino-Based Water Quality Monitoring System Using Turbidity Sensor
Abstract: Clean drinking water is essential for human health since dirty water can lead to serious diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid and long-term diseases such as kidney damage, cancer and child development problems. Though hard water is less dangerous, it causes dry skin and kidney stones and saline water causes high blood pressure. The Water Quality Monitoring System exists as a solution against existing water safety issues. The system …

Investigation of Pollution Status in River No. 2, Freetown, Sierra Leone, Using Physicochemical and Bacterial Indicators
Abstract: This study assessed the physicochemical and bacteriological quality of surface water in the River No. 2 watershed, Sierra Leone, through monthly sampling from March–August 2024 at upstream, midstream, and downstream sites. Analyses included temperature, turbidity, pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, ammonia, fluoride, sulfite, nitrate, lead, arsenic, chromium, and microbial indicators (Escherichia coli, fecal and non-fecal coliforms). Most physicochemical parameters met WHO drinking-water guidelines. pH (7.0–7.3), TDS (7–17 mg/L), turbidity …
