First Insights into Whole Genome Sequencing of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex: Molecular Diversity and Drug Susceptibility Patterns in Senegal
Abstract: Background: We conducted a bibliographic analysis of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) in sub-Saharan Africa, which included the analysis of 8,139 genomic sequences from 34 of the 49 sub-Saharan African countries. Notably, only one complete sequence from Senegal was identified, which had been generated in the United States. Our primary objective was to utilize whole genome sequencing (WGS) to detect resistance in anti-tuberculous strains of the MTBC in Senegal. This …

Live Epidemiological Tracking of COVID-19 in Senegalese Participants of the Hajj
Abstract: Background: Since the COVID-19 outbreak, global efforts have focused on controlling the disease. However, intense cross border movements pose a risk for the emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 strains. A recent example is the detection of cases among the 2024 Senegalese pilgrims returning from Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Investigations of these cases have revealed genomic evolution of the virus. The lack of surveillance may lead to the emergence of high-threat strains. This …

COVID-19 Resurgence in 2025: India’s Continuing Public Health Challenge
Abstract: The year 2025 has witnessed the resurgence of COVID-19, reigniting concerns at both global and national levels regarding the persistent threat posed by SARS-CoV-2. In early 2025, India witnessed a moderate resurgence of COVID‑19, characterized by the emergence of Omicron sub-variants and a rise in mild-to-moderate infections. As of mid-June, active COVID‑19 cases in India totaled approximately 6,000–7,400, with hotspots in Kerala (~2,100 cases), Delhi (~600), Maharashtra (~500), and several …

Genetic Authentication of Acacia Senegal (L.) Wild
Abstract: A study was carried out to ascertain the taxonomic identity and phylogenetic lineage of three presumed Acacia senegalensis using molecular markers. Three (3) varieties of seeds presumed to belong to Acacia spp. were collected from the Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria (RRIN) Benin City and three BP haplotypes (A, B, and C) was used as control for the analysis. These seeds were processed at the Applied Biotech International Laboratory Nigeria …

An Evaluative Comparison of CD123 and CD66c as Biomarkers to Detect Minimal Residual Disease in B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Abstract: Background: B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL) often shows lineage heterogeneity with lymphoid cells expressing myeloid markers. Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) refers to the small number of cancer cells that may remain in a patient's body after treatment and that are undetectable by standard diagnostic methods. In diseases like B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL), MRD is a critical prognostic indicator, as its presence can signal a higher risk of relapse. In …
