Polysaccharide-Based Composite Materials for Hemostatic Applications in Trauma Care
Abstract: Uncontrolled hemorrhage remains one of the leading causes of preventable trauma-related mortality worldwide, highlighting the urgent need for rapid, effective, and biocompatible hemostatic materials. Polysaccharide-based composite biomaterials have emerged as promising candidates owing to their excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, and intrinsic hemostatic properties. Natural polysaccharides, including chitosan, alginate, cellulose derivatives, starch, and hyaluronic acid, are increasingly combined with synthetic polymers, bioactive ceramics, metallic nanoparticles, and other functional additives to enhance mechanical …

Thermo-Responsive Polymer Blends for Minimally Invasive Medical Procedures
Abstract: Thermo-responsive polymer blends have become a key new class of biomaterials for the minimally invasive medical procedure. They offer precision, flexibility and greater patient safety. These smart materials undergo a change of physical/ mechanical properties relative to temperature difference in the body, limiting tissue trauma and increasing effectiveness of the procedure. Their adjustable sol-gel behavior, shape-memory effects and reversible volume change provides an opportunity for their precise delivery through catheters, …

Structure–Property Relationships in Poly (N isopropylacrylamide) Hydrogels: Toward Thermoresponsive Polymer Composites
Abstract: Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) hydrogels can shift from solid to gel and back again at body temperature. Due to their lack structural integrity, thermal stability, and mechanical strength, they are difficult to use. This study mixed PNIPAAm with biocompatible fillers like chitosan and silicon nanoparticles to create hydrogels with superior structure-property correlations. Free radical polymerization with ammonium persulfate/TEMED initiator and N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide crosslinker produced the composites. Scanning electron microscopy showed a denser, interconnected …

Effect of Polymer Crosslinking on Drug Release Kinetics
Abstract: In order to improve treatment effectiveness and minimise adverse effects, polymer-based drug delivery systems are often used to produce regulated and sustained drug release. Polymer crosslinking, which alters the structural, mechanical, and degrading characteristics of the polymer matrix, is one of the key elements affecting drug release kinetics. The porosity, swelling behaviour, and rate of degradation of the polymer are all impacted by the crosslinking process, which may be accomplished …
