Investigating the Functionality of Graphene Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) Laminates
Abstract: The increased adaptability and usefulness of glass-fiber reinforced polymer has led to its widespread adoption. GFRP laminates can be improved by including filler materials to improve their already impressive set of qualities. The demand for the research and development of advanced composites with enhanced properties has never been greater, and this is especially true for composites that are lightweight but have enhanced tensile and flexural qualities. An example of a …

Study of Strength of Composite Laminates with Ply- Discontinuities Using FEM
Abstract: Present research work attempts to understand the effect of ply-discontinuities on the strength of the FRP Composite. Finite Element Analyses have been performed for specimen undergoing four-point bend loading condition using ABAQUS software. Three specimens consisting of different ply sequences, same resin pocket size and location have been considered for the present analysis. Cohesive zone modelling technique is implemented to simulate and predict crack propagation pattern during failure of composite …

Artificial Neural Network Based Prediction of Impact Loads and Thickness in CFRP and GFRP Composite Laminates
Abstract: Recent technological advancements, particularly the integration of neural networks, have facilitated a predictive approach to complex engineering problems, especially those involving composite materials with directional properties. The scarcity of literature on predicting impact damage using experimental and ultrasonic flaw detection data motivated this study. Experimental assessment of impact damage on carbon fiber/epoxy (CFRP) and glass fiber/epoxy (GFRP) composites was conducted using low-velocity drop weight impact testing. Damage assessment employed an …

Thermal and Electrical Performance of Aluminum-Reinforced GFRP Composites
Abstract: This work examines an economical approach to improve the thermal load protection of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) composites, commonly utilized in aircraft constructions, pressure containers, and electrical insulators. Notwithstanding their superior mechanical capabilities, GFRP composites are susceptible to elevated temperatures and electrical currents, frequently resulting in considerable structural deterioration. The study introduces an innovative method employing aluminum reinforcement to enhance the thermal conductivity and protection of GFRP composite laminates. …
