Corrosion Testing and Evaluation of Inhibitors Performance
Abstract: Choosing test methods that will analyze specific needs, like film barrier strength that real field settings is essential for the proper evaluation and development of inhibitors. The flowing loop and the bubble test are two examples of the first and second, respectively. Corrosion is measured by gravimetric, electrical noise, alternating-current impedance, potentiodynamic measurement, linear polarization and gravimetric. The inhibitors action can be analyzed in different corrosive environments. Their performance is …

Effect of Formaldehyde Treatment on the Barrier and Mechanical Properties of Oat Protein Films
Abstract: Oat protein 5% with 40% glycerol as a plasticizer was used to prepare edible films, and formaldehyde was chemically added to the film's solution at four concentrations. The films' barrier and mechanical properties were then investigated. The films were characterized by being medium transparency, homogeneous, odorless, and with a thickness ranging between 0.12 and 0.15 mm. It was also observed that the water vapor permeability decreased whenever the concentration of …

A Review on Loading Methodologies of Active Aromatic Substance into Biopolymers
Abstract: Biopolymer-based films are increasingly being studied as sustainable alternatives to conventional packaging materials due to their biodegradability, renewability, and potential for functionalization. There are several natural polymers in the category of biopolymers such as soy protein, zein, cellulose, chitosan, and several other biodegradable synthetic polymers such as polylactic acid and polycaprolactone. However, these often show limitations in barrier properties, mechanical strength, and resistance to microbial contamination. To overcome these drawbacks, …

Advances in Nanocellulose-Enhanced Polymers and Composites: Structure, Performance, and Applications
Abstract: The most common biopolymer is cellulose, which can be converted into nanocellulose (NC) the sustainable nanomaterial possessing the outstanding characteristic of biodegradability, renewability, low density, high aspect ratio, and excellent mechanical performance. Such distinctive features make NC a promising filler in polymer and composite systems. Recent developments in the preparation of nanocellulose using various natural and artificial sources have facilitated scalable production processes that have less energy requirements and are …

Harnessing Marine and Agro-Waste Resources: Bioengineered Seaweed Polysaccharide–Coconut Films for Next-Generation Sustainable Packaging
Abstract: The increasing demand for biodegradable alternatives to petroleum-based plastics has led to significant interest in marine biopolymer-based packaging materials. This study focuses on the development of eco-friendly biocomposite films by reinforcing carrageenan, extracted from Kappaphycus alvarezii, with alkali-treated coconut at varying loadings (5%, 10%, and 15% w/w). The films were fabricated via solvent casting and subjected to comprehensive characterization. Mechanical analysis revealed substantial enhancement in tensile strength from 21.3 MPa …

AI-Designed Functionally Graded Polymer Composites for Multifunctional Thin Films
Abstract: The design of multifunctional polymer composite thin films requires simultaneous optimization of mechanical, optical, barrier, and thermal properties—objectives often in conflict when using conventional homogeneous materials. This study presents an artificial intelligence-driven framework for designing functionally graded material (FGM) architectures in polymer nanocomposite thin films. We integrated machine learning with physics-based modeling to optimize compositional gradients across film thickness, achieving superior performance compared to homogeneous and discrete multilayer alternatives. A …

Properties of Biodegradable Films based on Pectin, Mango Kernel Flour and Unrefined Palm Oil
Abstract: This study allowed to develop biodegradable films based on pectin, incorporating mango kernel flour and unrefined palm oil, whose physical and mechanical properties were investigated. Results highlighted the feasibility of developing of these composite films. The film properties showed variability in color, physical, barrier and mechanical properties, depending to concentration of ingredients. Biodegradable films obtained are homogeneous, non-cracked, uniform, and color is mainly orange. Opacity of films increased with the …
