Mechanical Characterization of Green Composite Brake Pads Reinforced with Coconut Shell Waste
Abstract: In the present work, coconut shell powder proposed as a replacement material for the eco-friendly brake linings. The composites for brake pad were developed with other sizes of the coconut shell particles, namely (200 µm, 300 µm, 400 µm and 500 µm) The developed samples were evaluated for morphological, mechanical, physical and worability properties. The SEM micrograph proved that the coconut shell particulates are well dispersed in the composite everywhere …

Performance Evaluation of Geopolymer Coconut Shell Concrete: A Comparative Study with Conventional Concrete
Abstract: The increasing demand for sustainable construction materials has driven the exploration of alternative aggregates such as coconut shells in geopolymer concrete. This study investigates the characteristics and performance of Geopolymer Coconut Shell Concrete (GPCSC) and compares it with traditional Geopolymer Conventional Concrete (GPCC). Both mixes were evaluated for workability, density, and compressive strength at 3, 7, and 28 days. The slump values for GPCSC and GPCC were 10 mm and …

M-Sand and coconut shells can partially substitute natural sand and coarse aggregate in a concrete mix
Abstract: This study explores a green approach to concrete production by using coconut shells and Manufactured Sand (M-Sand) as partial substitutes for traditional coarse aggregates and natural sand. Additionally, it investigates the role of silica in enhancing concrete properties. Coconut shells, often seen as waste, are utilized as lightweight aggregates, reducing the need for heavy natural aggregates. M-Sand replaces some of the natural sand, conserving this resource and reducing carbon emissions. …

Hybrid Polymer Composites Reinforced with Coconut Shell Fillers and Silica Fume: Synergistic Effects of Industrial By-Products : A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: The increasing requirement of sustainable and high-performance engineering materials has led to increased research in hybrid polymer composites comprising sustainable fillers in the form of renewable biomass or industrial by-products. Among the various bio-fillers that exist, coconut shell filler is gaining much prominence due to its low density, high content of lignin, hardness, and abundance as agricultural waste. Another industrial by-product that is rich in amorphous silica and possesses high …

Optimizing Mechanical Properties of Polypropylene Fibre-Reinforced Coconut Shell Concrete
Abstract: This study investigates the impact of polypropylene (PP) fibre reinforcement on the mechanical properties of coconut shell (CS) concrete. The compressive strength of CS concrete is primarily governed by the strength of CS aggregates, with early-age failure attributed to poor bonding and later-stage failure influenced by aggregate strength. The incorporation of PP fibres significantly enhanced compressive, tensile, and flexural strength. At 28 days, compressive strength increased by 1.2–3.45% in CSF …

Enhancing Mechanical and Durability Properties of Coconut Shell Concrete Using Fly Ash
Abstract: The increasing demand for sustainable and lightweight construction materials has driven research into alternative aggregates for concrete production. This study investigates the mechanical and durability properties of coconut shell (CS) concrete with varying percentages of fly ash replacement. The research evaluates compressive strength, split tensile strength, water absorption, and workability to determine the feasibility of CS concrete as a structural material. Experimental findings indicate that incorporating 10% fly ash (CSF10 …

Fabrication and Testing of Physical Behavior of Coconut Shell Micro Particulate and Walnut Shell Micro Particulate Reinforced Epoxy Composites
Abstract: Enhancing the physical characteristics of high-performance materials is largely dependent on the reinforcement of polymers by microparticles. The physical behavior of polyester composites containing coconut and walnut shell microparticles was thus investigated in order to create an engineering material for industrial use. Most researchers investigated the flammability test of fiber bio-composites only. There is a possibility that two particular polymers embedded in a thermoset polymer matrix could provide the lowest …

Fabrication and Characterization of PLA-CSP Composites via FDM for Biodegradable Food Packaging
Abstract: In light of the growing need for environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional plastic packaging, this study presents the design of a food-grade, biocompatible packaging material composed of Polylactic Acid (PLA) and packed with coconut shell powder (CSP). One of the most well-known thermoplastic polymers, PLA is produced from renewable resources like sugarcane or maize starch. Its nontoxicity, biodegradability, and adherence to food safety standards and regulations provide energy. Unfortunately, PLA's …

Experimental Assessment and Statistical Argument of Al-Si/CSA/MoS2 Hybrid Composites for Mechanical and Tribological Characteristics
Abstract: To augment the mechanical and tribological properties of Al-Si matrix composites complement with molybdenum disulphide (MoS₂) and coconut shell ash (CSA), a mixed experimental and Face-Centered Composite (FCC)strategy was employed. A liquid metallurgical method called stir casting was used to create hybrid composites with 5–15 wt.% CSA and 1–3 wt.% MoS₂. A FCC experimental design with thirty runs was used to thoroughly evaluate the materials. This design allowed for the …
