Sustainable Epoxy Composites Enhanced by Cellulose Nanocrystals for Structural and Thermal Applications
Abstract: This study presents the advancement and behaviour analysis of sustainable nanocomposites reinforced with cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), a biodegradable and high-aspect-ratio nanofiller derived from microcrystalline cellulose. CNCs were incorporated into a bisphenol-A-based epoxy matrix at varying concentrations (0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 wt%) to assess their influence on mechanical, thermal, and viscoelastic properties. The tensile strength of the composites increased significantly, from 45 MPa for neat epoxy to 65 MPa …

Turning the Properties of Wastes Paper-Derived Cellulose Nanocrystals for Enhanced Erythromycin Adsorption
Abstract: This study explores the modification, characterization, and adsorption performance of waste paper-derived cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) for the removal of erythromycin from aqueous solutions. CNCs were modified using organic acid, inorganic acid, and base treatments, and their structural changes were evaluated using FTIR, XRD, and BET analysis. FTIR confirmed the introduction of carboxyl and hydroxyl groups in acid-treated CNCs and deprotonation effects in base-treated CNCs. XRD analysis revealed that organic acid …

A Review on Loading Methodologies of Active Aromatic Substance into Biopolymers
Abstract: Biopolymer-based films are increasingly being studied as sustainable alternatives to conventional packaging materials due to their biodegradability, renewability, and potential for functionalization. There are several natural polymers in the category of biopolymers such as soy protein, zein, cellulose, chitosan, and several other biodegradable synthetic polymers such as polylactic acid and polycaprolactone. However, these often show limitations in barrier properties, mechanical strength, and resistance to microbial contamination. To overcome these drawbacks, …

Semiconducting Materials for Emerging Electronics and Technological Applications
Abstract: Semiconducting materials are important for emerging electronic and photovoltaic technologies because their structural, optical and electrical properties can be tailored for specific device applications. In this study, a TiO₂-based composite photoanode is considered as a polymer-assisted semiconducting thin-film system in which inorganic TiO₂ nanoparticles are processed with organic film-forming components to produce a porous layer for dye-sensitised solar cell application. Nanocrystalline TiO₂ nanoparticles were synthesised from titanium isopropoxide using a …
