Impact of Red Stone Dust and Polymer Fabric in Enhancing the Properties of Black Cotton Soil
Abstract: To enhance the mechanical properties of problematic black cotton soil, engineers are focusing on reinforcing the soil with geosynthetic materials. This attention is particularly directed towards improving the strength characteristics of black cotton soil, given its inherent challenges associated with volume changes and plasticity. In this comprehensive study, red stone dust waste is introduced in varying percentages ranging from 5% to 35% to stabilize the black cotton soil. The goal …

Harnessing Microbial and Phytoremediation Techniques for Sustainable Remediation of Heavy Metals in Black Cotton Soils
Abstract: Black cotton soils, renowned for their fertility and moisture retention capabilities, face significant challenges due to heavy metal contamination, posing threats to both agricultural productivity and environmental integrity. This review paper presents a comprehensive overview of bioremediation strategies aimed at mitigating heavy metal pollution in black cotton soils. The paper underscores the importance of addressing heavy metal (HM) contamination, emphasizing the need for exploring bioremediation techniques, as it sets the …

Enhancing the Strength of Black Cotton Soil with Enzyme and Industrial Waste
Abstract: Expansive soils are troublesome and prone to ground movements, which can cause substantial damage to underlying buildings as well as a loss in bearing capacity. Moisture fluctuation activates the expansive character of soils, causing it to swell and shrink. This has long been known in geotechnical engineering. To treat expansive soils, a variety of stabilizing additives such as lime, cement, and fly ash have been employed. In recent years the …

Improving Black Cotton Soil with Sodium Hydroxide and Fly Ash: An Assessment of Optimum Moisture Content, Dry Density, and California Bearing Ratio
Abstract: This study investigates the stabilization of Black Cotton Soil (BCS), an expansive clayey soil primarily composed of montmorillonite minerals, using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and fly ash. Due to its high plasticity and significant volume changes with moisture, BCS is challenging for construction purposes. Adding NaOH and fly ash can potentially improve the soil's moisture tolerance, compressibility, and reduce its plasticity, making it more suitable for structural applications. The research evaluates …

Comparative Study of Soft Soils Characteristics with Cement Waste Dust, Lime Powder and Boiled Rice Water
Abstract: Improvement of soft soil properties and effective pavement system performance of soft soils can be done only by stabilization process. It is an effective method. Jointly or individually, Chemical and/or Mechanical stabilization is done for various soils depending on the nature of that soil. As far as soft soils are concern, they are having reactive nature and so chemical stabilization is the best choice to improve such soil. Mainly, in …

Strength and Compressibility Behaviours of Expansive Soil Treated with Coffee Husk Ash and Xanthan Gum
Abstract: The strength of the sub-grade, the caliber of the subbase and base course, the surrounding conditions, and the characteries of the soil utilized are some of the variables that might impact how long a road lasts. Because expansive soil swells and shrinks in response to variation in moisture content, roads constructed on it are especially vulnerable to early deterioration. Buildings with black cotton soils have experienced different settlement due to …

Composite Behavior of Bagasse Ash Stabilized Expansive Soil with Sodium Benzophenone Under Curing Conditions
Abstract: The present investigation examines the development of a hybrid composite using Black Cotton (BC) soil, Bagasse Ash (BA), and Sodium Benzophenone (SBP) as performance-enhancing elements. Different ratios of BA, a silica-rich agro-industrial by-product, were added to improve pozzolanic reactivity and particle size distribution (0%, 6%, and 12%). SBP was added in the range of 0–0.6% as a compatibilizer in order to enhance interfacial adhesion, particle cohesivity and moisture-assisted deterioration resistance. …
