Alcoholic and Aqueous Extract of Eucaluyptus Globules Posses Antimicrobial Activity and Antifungal Property Confined only to Alcoholic Extract
Abstract: Alcoholic and aqueous extract of leaves of Eucalyptus globulus was studied for in vitro for its antimicrobial and antifungal activity. The study was done against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus), gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coil and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and fungus (Candida albicans). The evaluation was done by determining its inhibition zone. Result demonstrated that alcoholic extract has broad spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activity on gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria and fungus, whereas the …

Exploring the Potentials of Quercetin and Kaempferol combinations along with Regular Antibiotics for the Effective Management of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
Abstract: The methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that offers the challenge to numerous antibiotics which leads to a variety of problems, ranging from skin infections and sepsis to pneumonia. The natural products based management somewhat opened hope towards the betterment of the present era where the combination with currently available medicines has been studied clinically. Antibiotics (cefixime, ceftriaxone, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, cephradine, methicillin, ampicillin, levofloxacin, and amoxicillin) and flavonoids (quercetin, …

Antibiotic Resistance Studies in Streptococcus mutans Isolated from Dental Plaque Samples
Abstract: Dental plaque is an archetypical biofilm composed of a complex microbial community. It is the etiological agent for major dental diseases such as dental caries and periodontal disease. Streptococcus mutans has been heavily implicated in dental plaque formation. The control of plaque can be achieved by mechanical oral hygiene procedures. However, in many cases, that is not enough to completely get rid of the biofilm. The addition of antiplaque or …

Characterization of Synthesized Heterocyclic Oxadiazole Derivatives Using Mass, UV, IR, and NMR Spectroscopy, Among other Spectroscopic Techniques: Review
Abstract: The current study synthesized and assessed 3-heteroarylazo 4-hydroxy coumarin derivatives' initial antibacterial activities in vitro against four distinct pathogenic bacterial strains, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. Ampicillin, a common medication, was used to compare each compound's antibacterial properties. UV, IR, 1H NMR, mass spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction examinations were used to analyze the compounds. By using UV–vis spectra, the solute-chromic behavior of these compounds was …

Evaluating the Use of Antibiotic Prophylaxis in Surgical Procedures: A Study Conducted at a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital in Southern India
Abstract: Background: Prophylactic antibiotics can reduce the frequency of postoperative wound infections. Well-designed trials have demonstrated that the appropriate administration of prophylactic antibiotics in surgeries can reduce postoperative infections to about one-half of the incidence in untreated patients. Objectives: To examine surgeon's adherence to the hospital's antibiotic policy by comparing and assessing the usage of antibiotics as prophylactic before surgery. Methods: A prospective observational study was carried out among inpatients in …

Neonatal Sepsis: A Study on Isolated Pathogens and Their Susceptibility Pattern at Tertiary Care Hospital in Rural Setting
Abstract: Neonatal sepsis is one of the most important causes of infant mortality and morbidity. In spite of availability of broad spectrum antibiotics, treating sepsis has become a challenge due to emergence of resistant strains from time to time. The present study is aimed at to isolate the organisms causing sepsis in neonates and their antibiotic susceptibility patterns. From April 2013 to June 2014, 167 blood samples were collected from clinically …

Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of Helicobacter pylori in Africa
Abstract: To eradicate Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), antibiotic therapy must be adapted to the local resistance patterns. However, the epidemiology of drug resistance pattern of H. pylori is poorly documented in Africa. Therefore, the present review is aimed to review the prevalence of antibiotic resistant H. pylori from previous studies in Africa. A computerized English language literature search of PubMed, MEDLINE and Google Scholar was performed in January 2016. Only 11 …

Molecular Identification of Common Bacterial Infection in Chronic Otitis Media in an Outpatient Department of Tertiary Care Hospital
Abstract: Chronic otitis media (COM) is a chronic inflammation of the mucoperiosteum of the middle ear left which leads to profuse discharge from the ear and hearing impairment that may have a serious long-term effect on language, auditory and cognitive development and on educational progress. In the present study, the prevalence of culture-positive cases of an active mucosal variety of COM was 92.65%. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (41.2%) was the predominant aerobic bacterial …

To Compare the Anti-Bacterial Activity of Uva Ursi 200 And Cantharis Vesicatoria 200 In Isolated E-Coli of Different Urine Samples by Kirby Bauer Disc Diffusion Method
Abstract: Background: The most common bacterial infections are Urinary Tract Infections (UTI), primarily caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli), a gram negative bacterium responsible for 80-90% of community-acquired UTIs. The rise of antibiotic-resistant E. coli strains has increased the demand for Homoeopathic remedies. This study explores the antibacterial efficacy of Uva ursi 200 and Cantharis vesicatoria 200, using Kirby-Bauer Disc Diffusion Method, by comparing the Zone of Inhibition (ZOI) of those …

Existence of Integron I and II Genes from Clinical Isolate Staphylococcus aureus and Their Role in Drug Resistance
Abstract: An integron is a gene capture and dissemination system. They have been identified on both genomic and mobile genetic elements which often contain one or more genes that encode antibiotic resistance. They are commonly associated with bacterial genera in the family of Enterobacteriaceae. Currently, there have been recent reports showing the presence of integrons in Staphylococcus species. The aim of the present study was to assess the existanxe of Class …

Abstract: The present study was to isolate and characterize the potential probiotic bacterium from the gutof healthy fish, Channa striata. Totally, 37 bacteria were isolated from the gut region, in whichonly 25 isolates that showed catalase negative were selected. Among the selected isolates, CS4exhibited maximum inhibitory activity against fish (Aeromonas hydrophila, Vibrio harveyi,Vibrio parahaemolyticus) and human (Serratia marcescens) pathogenic bacteria. Theisolate CS4 exhibited potential tolerance to 0.5% bile salts at 24 …

Over the Counter Drugs Use by Libyan Women before and during Pregnancy
Abstract: Information on the safety of drugs is particularly important during pregnancy because pregnant women may have chronic diseases requiring medical intervention, for example, epilepsy, diabetic mellitus, or asthma. Alternatively, they develop pregnancy-induced problems such as hypertension or diabetes. For both situations, drug use in pregnancy is necessary. To avoid all drugs in pregnancy is unreasonable and may be dangerous. The main aim of this study was to measure the frequency …
