Enhancement of Quercetin from Peel of Cucurbita by using Bacillus cereus Species through Fermentation Process
Abstract: Cucurbita (Pumpkin) is one of the nutritious vegetables and belongs to Cucurbitaceae family. It contains high percentage of quercetin flavonoids. In this research, enhancement of quercetin from peel of Cucurbita has been done by using Bacillus cereus species through fermentation process. The quercetin production was found to show best results from fermentation process than extraction process due to biotransformation. In this research, the highest production of quercetin was found to …

Prevalence of Multidrug-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae Causing Urinary Tract Infection
Abstract: Urinary tract infections are one of the most common causes of hospital admission, high morbidity and mortality. The most common cause of urinary tract infection is Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Citrobacter spp. and Gram-positive bacteria such as Enterococcus spp., Staphylococcus aureus and Coagulase-negative Staphylococci. Multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae are emerging worldwide due to high empiric and injudicious use of antibiotics. …

Efficacy of Rapid Diagnostic Tests in Relation to ELISA in Hepatitis B and C Infection
Abstract: Background: Hepatitis B surface antigen and Hepatitis C antibodies in circulation are the common markers used for diagnosis of Hepatitis B and C infection. Though ELISA is the gold standard for detection of these markers, rapid diagnostic tests like immunochromatography is used in most of the centers for quick screening of cases. This study is undertaken to compare the result of both methods. Method: Both ICT and ELISA test were …

Antifungal Activity of Lactic Acid Cocci Isolated from Camel Milk
Abstract: This study examines the antifungal activity of lactic acid cocci isolated from camel milk against mold growth. After the isolation, purification, and characterization of lactic acid cocci, the screening of strains with antifungal activity was done by overlay and confrontation methods against Aspergillus fumigatus. These strains show strong activity. Antifungals were selected to study their inhibitory effect on liquid medium, evaluate their antifungal spectrum, and study the effect of their …

Lithium Induces Lower Specific Activity and Expression of Acetylcholinesterase in Old Aged Rats Brain and Liver for the Regulation of Acetyl Choline Cellular Signaling
Abstract: Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) acts on acetylcholine (ACh) to terminate its actions on the synaptic cleft by cleaving Ach to choline and acetate. This directly correlates with memory dysfunction and loss of cognitive functions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients which was a continuous decline of the cholinergic neurotransmission in cortical and other regions of human brain. Specific activity and expression for AChEwere determined in LiCl2 treated young and old male wistar rat's …

Anatomical Variations in Origin and the Branching Pattern of the Brachial Plexus in Selected Universities of Ethiopia and its Clinical Implication
Abstract: Introduction: Brachial plexus is a key anatomic structure and variations in the form; this plexus is of greatest importance due to the practical significances of this plexus for modern clinical and surgical procedures done in this region. Alongside this background, we aimed to study the variations in the formation and branching pattern of brachial plexus and to observe intercommunications between nerves of this plexus. Material and Methods: This study was …

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Marijuana
Abstract: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has both negative and positive attributes. Those with OCD find themselves genetically endowed with traits that will help them succeed in life--creativity, a sense of detail/symmetry, tenacious motivation, and a propensity for achievement in the arts, writing, and education. Without one major caveat though, OCD would be a strong quality for general success--the life of one with OCD may be overly complex and mentally tortuous. In this …

Examining the Executive Functions in Neurotypical Individuals and Individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment
Abstract: Executive function (EF) is one of the key processes of cognition. It refers to a variety of skills which help in making socially responsible, self-serving, independent, and purposive behavior possible. Executive functions could be divided into domains like attention, response inhibition, cognitive flexibility and so on. The study tried to examine the integrity of two main executive functions (attention and response inhibition) in normal aging individuals and individuals with mild …

Dysarthria and Dysphagia in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A Case Study
Abstract: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is the most common motor neuron disease affecting the bulbar, limb and respiratory muscles. ALS is generally characterized by progressive degeneration of both upper motor neuron (UMN) and lower motor neuron (LMN) dysfunction leading to a ‘mixed’ spastic-flaccid dysarthria. To date, only a few studies have been published regarding the nature of speech characteristics and dysphagia during the developmental course of ALS. The present study highlighted …
