Electrodeposition and Magnetron Sputtering of Rhenium Coatings on Carbon-Carbon Composites for Enhanced Corrosion Resistance and Structural Integrity
Abstract: It is well known that tailored materials are gaining in-roads to aviation and other manufacturing industries where stringent requirements are to be met, due to high temperature erosion, which is a problem. In order to counter these issues, materials which can resist a very high temperature are to be sought. One of the several methods to combat this high temperature issue is to provide a metallic refractory material coating on …

Enhancing The Mechanical Performance of Al6061/Graphite Composites Reinforced with Sic and Aluminium Oxide Processed by Stir Casting
Abstract: The study investigates the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy Al6061 reinforced with varying proportions of silicon carbide (SiC) (0 wt%, 4 wt%, 5 wt%, and 6 wt%) and aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) (0 wt%, 4 wt%, 3 wt%, and 2 wt%), with a constant addition of 1 wt% graphite. The composites were fabricated using the stir casting process, an efficient and economical method for uniformly distributing ceramic reinforcements within the metal …

AL6061/Al2O3-Ash Reinforced Composites: An Experimental and Statistical Study Using Ultrasonic Stir Casting
Abstract: This study presents an experimental investigation on the influence of fly ash particle size on the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy (Al6061) composites fabricated through Ultrasonic Assisted Stir Casting. Fly ash, a low-cost and low-density by-product of thermal power plants, has emerged as an effective reinforcement material due to its excellent fluidity, high filling capability, and ease of processing. It has been increasingly utilized in metal, polymer, and rubber composites …

Automated Microstructure Classification with Class-Specific Segmentation for Titanium Based Composite Materials
Abstract: In engineering, characterisation of microstructure is required to determine and forecast behaviour of titanium alloys. Our proposal in this work has been a deep-learning-based framework in the automatic classification and segmentation of Titanium Based Composite Material. The framework then uses EfficientNetB0 backbone, where we have chosen the backbone to scale the performance of classification and the computational efficiency with the assistance of the transfer learning and the compound scaling. In …

Thermo-Fluid Characterization of Corrugated U-Tube Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchanger with Polymer Composite Tube Wall: A Combined CFD and Experimental Investigation
Abstract: Shell-and-tube heat exchangers built with metallic tubes work well thermally, but corrosion problems, extra weight, and the inability to adjust the wall’s thermal properties through material choice remain genuine engineering headaches, particularly for corrosive or weight-critical applications. Over the past few years there has been a fair amount of interest in replacing metal tubes with polymer composite alternatives, since blending thermally conductive fillers — graphite nanoplatelets, boron nitride platelets and …

Multi-Layer Aluminum–Polymer Hybrid Structures for Improved Automotive Impact Performance
Abstract: Layered metal–polymer hybrid laminates have emerged as promising candidates for lightweight automotive structures requiring high impact resistance and structural reliability. In this study, aluminum/glass–epoxy hybrid laminates were fabricated using a symmetric stacking sequence through hot compression molding to evaluate their mechanical and energy absorption performance. Density analysis revealed an average measured density of 2.34 g/cm³, closely matching the theoretical value of 2.36 g/cm³, with a deviation of approximately 1.02%, indicating …

Bioinspired Nanocomposite Bone Pins: Fabrication, Evaluation, and Suitability for Orthopedic Implant Applications
Abstract: Bone tissue engineering (BTE) requires scaffolds that mimic bone’s mineral–organic composition, offering mechanical strength, bioactivity, and degradation rates compatible with regeneration. Conventional metallic implants face corrosion and toxic ion release risks, while ceramics like hydroxyapatite (HAp) are bioactive but brittle. This study reports a multifunctional hybrid scaffold combining HAp for osteoconductivity; polycaprolactone (PCL) and collagen for flexibility and biocompatibility with sodium citrate for nanoparticle dispersion, ferrocene (Fc) for catalytic bioactivity; …
