Variations of Macroplastics in Water and Sediments at Bundu Waterfront, Upper Bonny Estuary, Rivers State, Nigeria
Abstract: Macroplastic pollution has become an increasingly severe environmental challenge, particularly in urban waterfronts where waste management is inadequate. Bundu Waterfront of the Upper Bonny Estuary in Port Harcourt, Rivers State is a sink for macroplatics from careless disposal of solid wastes and inadequate management thus affecting the biological integrity and aquatic life of this estuary. The resultant impact of the macroplastics on abiotic factors through the evaluation of different floating …

Development of Shelf-stable Oral Rehydration Drink with Whey and Red seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii)
Abstract: The present study aimed at developing a whey based oral rehydration drink (ORD) incorporated with red seaweed. The ORD was formulated with seaweed, sodium chloride, potassium chloride and sugar at the concentrations of 1.0 w/v%, 0.20 w/v%, 0.075 w/v% and 15 w/v% respectively and a whey:water ratio of 1:1.5. The ORD with 1.0 w/v% seaweed obtained the highest overall sensorial acceptability. This drink was further subjected to storage study for …

Phytoremediation of Aquaculture Wastewater: Duckweed (Lemna minor L.) as a Phytoremediator
Abstract: Aquaculture systems discharge huge quantities of waste into the aquatic ecosystem, in the form of excretory products and excess feed. These have grave implications on physicochemical and biological quality of the receiving environment. The study aimed to determine potential of duckweed (Lemna minor L.) for phytoremediation of aquaculture effluent. Hundred grams (100 g) of duckweed was grown in 10 L aquaculture effluent for 7-, 14-, 21-, and 28-day retention period …
