Crystallization Kinetics and Morphological Shifts in Polylactic Acid/Nanocellulose Blends Under Isothermal Melt Conditions
Abstract: The great potential of polylactic acid as a sustainable biopolymer for packaging, biomedical materials, and additive manufacturing, polylactic acid's slow crystallization kinetics during melt processing causes it to be poorly crystallized, thermally weak, and mechanically underperforming. Crystallization models of PLA/nanocellulose blends have been limited to isothermal melt crystallization kinetics and the resulting morphological changes. The phenomena discussed in this work are systematically explored by melt compounding of polylactic acid with …

Thermal Degradation Kinetics and Activation Energy of Recycled High-Density Polyethylene/Fly Ash Composites at Varying Filler Loadings
Abstract: The ever-increasing plastic waste and coal fly ash are a serious environmental problem, which have to be addressed with effective recycling methods that transform plastic waste and coal fly ash into high value-added composites of good thermal properties. Although the use of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is an area of interest, the effect of fly ash reinforcement on thermal degradation kinetics and activation energy is still poorly characterized, and a …

AI-Optimized Nano-Silica Reinforced PCM Composites for Predictive Solar-Thermal Energy Storage Networks
Abstract: This study presents an AI-optimized nano-silica reinforced polymer composite phase change material (PCM) for predictive solar-thermal energy storage networks. The proposed composite combines paraffin wax, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and uniformly dispersed nano-silica particles to improve thermal conductivity, structural stability, leakage resistance, and long-term cycling performance. The composite was fabricated through melt blending and ultrasonication-assisted nanoparticle dispersion, followed by comprehensive morphological, chemical, thermal, and thermophysical characterization using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), …

Polymer Composite Phase Change Materials: Materials Design, Processing, Characterization, and Structure–Property Relationships—A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: Polymer composite phase change materials (PCPCMs) have been recognized as an innovative category of multifunctional polymeric materials, which could be tuned by appropriate materials design, composite formation, and interface modification. With the incorporation of phase change materials in polymer matrix systems and functional fillers, PCPCMs show improved mechanical properties, physicochemical stability, and functionality in contrast to traditional phase change materials. With recent advances in polymer science, nanocomposites, and processing techniques, …
