Short Review on Anti-adhesion Coating in Microfluidics for Applications in Biotechnology
Abstract: In this short review, the use of diamond-like carbon (DLC) as anti-adhesion coating in microfluidics is described. The anti-adhesion coating is required on SU-8 based silicon stamp surface to fabricate the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) based microfluidic devices using maskless lithography, hot embossing lithography and direct bonding technique. Also, the DLC coating is required on PMMA microchannel surface to change the surface-driven capillary flow of water in PMMA microfluidic devices. The static …

Arterial Stiffness as an Antecedent in the Pathogenesis of Primary Hypertension
Abstract: Over the past 50 years, it has been postulated that abnormality in resistance vessels play an important and critical role in the pathogenesis of hypertension as these vessels maintain the steady-flow hemodynamic in the circulation. Accordingly, antihypertensive therapies were designed to alter the peripheral vascular resistance or cardiac output, resulting in a reduction in mean arterial pressure. However, in recent years, many studies have emphasized the role of arterial stiffness …

Formulation and Evaluation of a Herbal Mosquito Repellent
Abstract: Mosquito bites can give an unpleasant feeling and are attracted to human blood containing protein to develop their eggs, biting human to another human, thereby transmitting the vector disease to human. Many species of mosquitoes are vectors of several disease causing pathogens such as dengue, zika and yellow fever. Dengue fever and yellow fever can cause severe human morbidity and mortality. Over one million people worldwide die from mosquito diseases …

Xenopsylla cheopis and Plague: Biology, Transmission, and Control
Abstract: Xenopsylla cheopis, the oriental rat flea, remains the most important vector of Yersinia pestis in classical rodent–flea–human plague cycles. Its biology is tightly adapted to commensal rats, especially Rattus rattus and Rattus norvegicus, whose nests provide microhabitats that support all pre adult stages and favour persistent flea populations near humans. The flea’s holometabolous life cycle, including the capacity for prolonged pupal quiescence and opportunistic host-seeking by adults, underpins its ability …

Evaluation of Diagnostic Sensitivity of Rapid Immuno-Chromatographic Card Test (ICT) Against IgM ELISA for Serological Diagnosis of Scrub Typhus: An Experience at a Tertiary Care Centre in South-Eastern Rajasthan
Abstract: Introduction: Scrub typhus (ST) is a common but under-reported rickettsial disease in rural/sub-urban population of our country often resulting in severe complications and high mortality. Evaluation of ‘point of care’ tests like Rapid Immuno-Chromatographic Card Test (ICT) for diagnosis of ST is important to ascertain its utility in diagnosis of the disease in remote and peripheral settings. Aims: The present study was designed to evaluate the diagnostic sensitivity of Rapid …
