Thermo-Hydraulic Enhancement of Annular Finned Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchangers Using Epoxy-Based Polymer Composites: A Material–Geometry Coupled CFD Investigation
Abstract: Shell-and-tube heat exchangers remain a backbone of industrial thermal systems, yet their performance is often limited by relatively low shell-side heat transfer and the weight and cost associated with conventional metallic components. In this context, the integration of polymer composite materials offers a promising pathway toward lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and performance-tunable heat exchanger designs. The present study investigates the thermo-hydraulic performance of a straight-tube shell-and-tube heat exchanger equipped with annular fins, …

Role of Polymer and Composite Materials in Enhancing Durability and Comfort of Urban Park Furniture for Senior Citizens
Abstract: Parks in urban areas are crucial in facilitating physical activities, socialization, and or mental health to the elderly citizens. Nonetheless, the traditional materials in outdoor park furniture may suffer in the form of low durability, weathering, ergonomics and maintenance, among other aspects and restrict long term applications of such furniture by the elderly population. The research question examined in the proposed study is: How can polymer-based and composite materials improve …

Thermal Dissipation Performance of Metal–Polymer Composite Heat Exchanger for Enhanced Thermal Management in Compact Electric Geysers
Abstract: Most electric geysers these days are made from all-metal stuff, like stainless steel tanks and copper coils for heating, plus mild steel on the outside. Standby heat losses can be 20 to 40 watts, and a 15-litre unit weighs around 6 to 8 kilograms. Manufacturing costs are higher, too. Hard water makes it worse, with limescale building up on the heating elements and cutting thermal conductivity by 10 to 30 …

Polymer Composite-Enhanced Anaerobic Digestion of Kitchen Waste for Optimised Biogas Production: Process Design, Parametric Study, and Simulation Analysis
Abstract: There is an urgent need for decentralised sustainable biogas production from organic waste due to the rising amount of food waste in cities. The application of polymer composite material including HDPE tanks, PVC pipes, and FRP secondary containment systems presents a promising option compared to conventional MS digester fabrication in terms of durability, excellent thermal insulation capability, light weight, and easier installation. This study explores the possibility of adopting a …

Non-Destructive Examination Protocols in API 650 for Welded Storage Tank Fabrication: A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: The storage tanks play vital roles in industrial sectors, including oil and gas, manufacturing, and chemical processing by enabling safe containment of liquids and gases during key operations like production, treatment, refining, transport/distribution, and inventory control. API 650 standard is a worldwide recognized specification that covers the design and manufacturing criteria for large, welded steel storage tanks. API 650 ensures that tanks are built to withstand internal pressures and environmental …

Prediction of Depth-Induced Stress Distribution and Maintenance Cost Implications for Submerged Structural Components
Abstract: This study investigates the influence of water depth on stress distribution and structural integrity of submerged mechanical components . Structural models fabricated from mild steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, and copper alloy were examined under hydrostatic loading corresponding to water depths between 30 cm and 150 cm. Results indicate that normal and shear stresses increased proportionally with depth due to intensified hydrostatic pressure. Mild steel exhibited the highest stress concentrations, …
