Microplastics in Terrestrial Ecosystems: Impacts on Soil Biodiversity, Plant Growth, and Nutrient Cycling
Abstract: Microplastics, defined as plastic particles smaller than 5 mm, have emerged as a widespread environmental contaminant in terrestrial ecosystems. Although their impacts in aquatic environments have received considerable attention, the occurrence and ecological consequences of microplastics in soil ecosystems are increasingly recognized as an important environmental concern. Agricultural practices, plastic mulching, sewage sludge application, wastewater irrigation, compost, atmospheric deposition, and the fragmentation of larger plastic materials are major pathways through …

Modeling for Removal of Nickel and Lead from Industrial Wastewater by Adsorption
Abstract: Heavy metals are stable and persistent environmental contaminants. They cannot be degraded or destroyed. The main anthropogenic sources of heavy metals are industries. The removal efficiency of heavy metals by preparing activated carbon from sugar mill sludge is determined. The carbon has been used as adsorbent. The experiment was carried out manually by batch process and column flow system. The results obtained are processed statically by developing a program to …

Degradation of Phenolic Compound’s in Annular Photo-Reactor Using H2O2/UV Process
Abstract: Advance oxidation process is one of the best treatment applications for the remediation of water, waste water, odour, sludge and traditionally used for the removal of organic contaminant. The advance oxidation process introduced UV mediate process where an oxidant and UV frequency are applied. This process uses the photo chemical oxidation of phenol in a batch recycle photochemical reactor using UV irradiation/hydrogen peroxide. In this paper, the parameters used such …

Life Cycle Costing of Sewage Treatment Plant
Abstract: Abstract In this fast growing life, every industry and organization needs proper management for time, money, resources, and material. Time and cash management is most necessary for construction industry. Life cycle costing (LCC) is a process of evaluating the economic performance of a structure over its entire life. The process of identifying and documenting all the costs involved over the life of as asset is known as life cycle costing. …

Start-Up of the Two-Stage UASB Reactor Using Paper Mill Effluent
Abstract: This study is designed to evaluate the treatability potential of using two-stage anaerobic reactors (R-I and R-II) for the treatment of paper mill effluent. It was observed that the bicarbonate alkalinity of the reactors increased from 215 to 266 mg-CaCO3/L in reactor R-I and from 456 to 604 mg-CaCO3/L in reactor R-II, by the addition of an external buffer solution. The average volatile fatty acids formation noticed within the reactors …

Reduction of Heavy Metal by Biosorption
Abstract: Microorganisms can be used for treatment of metal and metalloid containing water streams in way to sequester the targeted species. The pollutants of concern include lead, chromium, mercury, uranium, selenium, zinc, arsenic, cadmium, gold, silver, copper and nickel. These toxic materials may be derived from mining operations, refining ores, sludge disposal, the processing of radioactive materials, metal plating, or the manufacture of electrical equipment, paints, alloys, batteries, pesticides or preservatives. …

Effect of Cycle Time Lengths on the Performance of Aerobic SBR Treating Tannery Wastewater
Abstract: AbstractTannery industry generates significant quantities of wastewater which contains high organic matter, nitrogen, and chromium which needs to be treated before discharged into receiving water bodies. The aim of this study is to characterize tannery wastewater and to investigate the effect of cycle time length on performance of aerobic sequencing batch reactor (SBR) for treating a high load tannery wastewater. In this experimental study, an aerobic biological SBR with 50m3 …

Studies on the Biodegradation of Hydrocarbons using Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Aspergillus niger
Abstract: Biodegradation or biotic degradation or biotic decomposition is the chemical dissolution of material by bacteria or other biological means. The term is often used in relation to ecology, waste management, biomedicine, and the natural environment (bioremediation) and is now commonly associated with environmentally friendly products that are capable of decomposing back into natural elements. Organic material can be degraded aerobically with oxygen, or an aerobically, without oxygen. A term related …
