A Review on Artificial Intelligence Techniques for Analyzing Deforestation and Illegal Logging Using Satellite Imagery
Abstract: Deforestation and illegal logging remain critical environmental threats, driving biodiversity loss, climate change, and socio-economic disruption. Conventional monitoring techniques frequently do not yield real-time, large-scale insights. Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially in deep learning and computer vision, have revolutionized the ability to analyze high-resolution satellite images for detecting deforestation and monitoring illegal logging. This review synthesizes recent developments in AI-driven approaches, highlighting convolutional neural networks (CNNs), anomaly detection …

Diversity and Abundance of Fish Species in Lower River Benue, Makurdi, Nigeria
Abstract: This study evaluated the diversity and abundance of fish species in Lower River Benue, Makurdi, Nigeria, for a duration of 3 months. Fish samples were collected from fishermen at immediately after landing using assorted fish gears. A total of 1, 106 fish specimens, representing 16 families and 35 species, were identified and examined. The dominant families from the sample were Cichlidae (24%) and Schilbeidae (20%) while the families Distochontidae, Latidae, …

Integrated Remote Sensing Indices for Assessing Pre-Monsoon Water Scarcity Vulnerability in a Semi-Arid Coastal Ecosystem: A Case Study of Barda Wildlife Sanctuary, Gujarat, India
Abstract: Freshwater availability fundamentally shapes the structure and function of dryland ecosystems, where evapotranspiration exceeds precipitation for most of the year. Protected areas in semiarid regions face intensifying hydrological stress from climate variability, growing wildlife populations, and resident human communities, yet systematic spatial assessments of water scarcity remain scarce for many critical habitats. The Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in coastal Gujarat, India, has recently become a secondary home for the endangered Asiatic …

An Overview of Microbial Diversity in the Functions of Wetland Ecosystems
Abstract: Wetlands serve as abundant reservoirs of biodiversity, crucial for the well-being of both humanity and the natural world. They represent the most critical and fertile ecosystem, where water predominantly dictates the environment and the plant and animal species that inhabit it. Wetlands have diverse microbial flora and fauna, which play essential roles in ecosystems. Soil and aquatic microorganisms mediate many processes, such as biogeochemical cycles, waste decomposition, symbiotic relationships, and …

Conflict Resolution and Long-term Planning: A Case Study of Bangladesh’s Marine Areas
Abstract: Bangladesh has a significant maritime area (118,813 km2 ), about equal to its land area. As a result, this vast marine area has prompted Bangladesh to exploit its maritime resources in a sustainable manner, which has been dubbed the “Blue Economy.” Bangladesh's maritime region is used for a number of activities, including fishing, shipbuilding, shipping, oil and gas exploration, tourism, energy, and military exercises. User-user conflict and user-environment conflict are …
