Screening and Characterisation of Antibacterial Actinomycetes Isolated From Earthworm
Abstract: The actinomycetes are considered to be the most potent source for the production of secondary metabolites, antibiotics and other bioactive compounds. The present study dealt with the isolation of the actinomycetes from the earthworm, Eisenia fetida. The actinomycetes were identified using slide culture technique and various biochemical tests. The isolates (S1 and S2) showed activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria in primary screening by perpendicular streak method. In …

Phytochemical Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Cassia Alata Leaf Extract
Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study was screening for bioactive compounds with pharmaceutical properties from Cassia alata leaf extract. Methodology: The dried sample of Cassia alata leaf was powdered and extracted with ethanol using soxhlet apparatus. Antimicrobial activity of the leaf extract was checked against different clinical pathogens. Result and discussion: Thin layer chromatography (TLC) revealed the number of compounds present in the leaf extract. The results suggest that they …

Isolation of Lactobacillus Acidophilus with A High Acid-Producing Capacity and Its Common Characteristics
Abstract: Some strains of lactobacilli like spore Lactobacillus offer good merits in normalizing intestinal micro biota, resisting selectively to intestinal pathogens, exerting resistance to heat, acid and antibiotics, and are of good storage stability. This research work has been conducted in order to isolate a certain strain of Lactobacillus that offers high resistance to the gastric acid, bile and pathogens, and mutualistic symbiosis with useful intestinal microbes, and identifying its characteristics …

Development of Cotton and Cotton Gauze Fabric Coated with Swietenia microphylla Bark as a Wound Contact Layer
Abstract: The present work discusses the development of cotton and cotton gauze-based bandage using mahogany. The biological properties of mahogany bark extract have been identified. The 25% concentration of mahogany extract have been treated directly and kept at room temperature for conditioning. Further the antibacterial activity of mahogany-treated samples have been evaluated against wound infecting pathogens (AATCC- 147) Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Serratia marcescens and Staphylococcus aureus. …
