Available Transfer Capability (ATC) under Deregulated Environment
Abstract: The structure of the power industry is moving towards deregulated environment from the regulatory environment (monopoly). With deregulation taking place in the power industry, it introduces a more competitive environment in terms of free choice of suppliers for the trading of electricity. Monopolies of an industry will lead to a poor performance from the sector as there are no competitions for the sole company to strive for improvement. It will …

Is the propensity of increasing the rice production a sustainable approach? Experiences from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh
Abstract: Half of the world’s population consumes rice as their staple food, making it one of the most demanding crops in the world. South Asia covers 37.5% of global rice harvested area and contributes 32% of global rice production. Due to high population growth rate, the demand for rice in South Asia will continue to increase. At present, around 276 million people in South Asia are undernourished. India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan …

Turbulence Characteristics of Flow over Smooth and Rough Beds
Abstract: Experimental study on turbulence measurements in an open channel with smooth and rough beds using acoustic doppler velocimeter (ADV) has been carried out in the present study. Measured velocity distribution along the depth on smooth and rough beds for different discharges and bed slopes is in good agreement with logarithmic law. The turbulence intensities were more near the bed and less near the water surface. Existing equations for turbulence intensities …

HCC Based Hybrid Shunt Active Filter to Reduce the Harmonics Due to Switching Surges
Abstract: This paper deals with the hysteresis current control based hybrid shunt active filter to reduce the harmonics produced by frequent switching of industrial loads in distribution system. The main harmonic sources of distribution lines are the non linear loads and frequent switching of industrial loads. The harmonics due to non linear loads can be controlled by passive filters. The switching surges are dynamic and its magnitude dies out quickly. Hence …

A New Approach to the Laplace-Domain Transient Analysis of Non-Uniform Lines with Application to Power Line Towers
Abstract: Abstract:This paper presents a new technique for the Laplace-domain analysis ofthe electromagnetic transients in non-uniform lines with special consideration of high voltage power line towers. The derived partial differential equations governing the voltage and current distributions, as functions of both the location and time, are solved by an efficient Mathematica computercode based on parametric functions. The applicability of the proposed direct distributed-parameter simulation is demonstrated. Theresults are in good agreement …

COVID-19 Impacts on Agriculture and Food Security
Abstract: COVID-19 and lockdown originally had the effect that the shift in demand curve to the left resulted in "leveling off" the prices of agricultural produce. The reason for this was not the lack of demand due to rising prices. The reason for this was that due to their consumption being limited to homes and lack of workers, most companies were forced to reduce production in their factories. The coronavirus pandemic …

Two Phase Retrial Queue Evaluation Using DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory)
Abstract: In this study, retrial queues are characterized by calls that detect that all servers are busy joining the review team, and retrying their demands in random order and at random intervals. If the server is found to be busy, customers can join the review team at a random time. But they keep making the same demands, at random or at set intervals. Recurring queues are widely used to model many …
