L-glutaminase of Vibrio sp. from White-Spot Virus disease out-broken shrimp pond
Abstract: Bacteria from White Spot Viral (WSV) disease out-broken shrimp (Penaeus monodon) pond sediments located in the bank of Vellar estuary, South east coast of India were enumerated, enriched, screened by plate assay and confirmed as Vibrio sp. through biochemical tests. Extracellular L-glutaminase was eluted from Vibrio sp. by centrifugation and purified by downstream process. The final yield was 1.7% with 15.4 IU mg-1 of specific activities, which was 17.2 fold …

Biofertilizers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Abstract: India, being an agriculture-based country, there has always been a concern about crop improvement here. Chemical fertilizers increased crops yield, but eventually leached out soil, polluted water basins, degraded ecosystems, reducing soil fertility and thus causing damage to overall environment. Organic fertilizers are costlier and they released nutrients in the surrounding environment thus degrading soil and water quality and human health. Thus came into picture the use of GM crops …

Molecular Characterization of Abiotic Stress Tolerant Chickpea Rhizobia
Abstract: Rhizobacteria are root-colonizing bacteria that form a symbiotic relationship with many legumes. Though parasitic varieties of rhizobacteria exist, the term usually refers to bacteria that form a relationship beneficial for both the parties (mutualism). Such bacteria are often referred to as plant growth promoting rhizobacterias (PGPRs). Though microbial inoculants are indisputably beneficial for crops, they are not widely used in industrial agriculture, as large-scale application techniques have yet to become …

Morphological Identification of Rumen Protozoal Population in Domestic Ruminants of Chennai
Abstract: Rumen is a complex ecosystem where feed consumed by ruminants is digested by the help of symbiotic microbes (bacteria, protozoa, and fungi) and the interaction between the host and ruminal microorganisms are diverse. This provides an advantage in the ability of ruminant digestion. End products of rumen fermentation are volatile fatty acids and the microbial biomass. The distribution of rumen microbes, their numbers, type, vary in the ruminants and is …
