A Study for the Presence of Enterococcal Virulence Factors Gelatinase, Haemolysin among Clinical Isolates in a Tertiary Care Hospital
Abstract: Enterococcus, considered a normal commensal of intestinal tract, is fast emerging pathogen causing serious infection. Despite the increasing importance of Enterococcus as opportunistic pathogens, their virulence factors are still poorly understood. The potential virulence factors of Enterococci include production of enterococcal surface protein (Esp), gelatinase, and haemolysin. Gelatinase- and haemolysin-producing strains of Enterococcus faecalis have been shown to be virulent in animal models of enterococcal infections. This study was undertaken …

Inhibitory Action of Sodium Tellurite on Uropathogenic Bacteria
Abstract: The objective of the present study was to predict the toxic properties of sodium tellurite against selected uropathogenic bacteria. A group of nine clinical isolates of different uropathogenic bacteria isolated from urine in suspected cases of urinary tracts infection Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Acinetobacter baumannii, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were collected and utilized for screening tests. The spectrum of toxic properties …

An Evaluation of Photodynamic Therapy in Dentistry with a Focus on Surgical Applications
Abstract: Throughout the centuries, various forms of light therapy have found applications in medical settings. These include phototherapy for neonatal jaundice, psoralen molecules combined with ultraviolet A light (PUVA) in dermatology, and techniques like photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photodetection. In recent years, the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis, has necessitated the exploration of alternative treatment options. Photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy (PACT) has arisen as …

Synthesis, Characterization and Applications of Poly (2-Methyl Aniline-co-2-Chloro Aniline) and Poly (2-Methyl Aniline-co-2-Chloro Aniline)-Nanocomposite-CuO
Abstract: The copolymer and its composite, poly (2-methyl aniline-co-2-chloro aniline) and poly (2-methyl aniline-co-2-chloro aniline)-nanocomposite-CuO respectively were synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization method using ammonium persulphate as oxidant, sodium lauryl sulphate as surfactant and HCl as dopant. The synthesized copolymer and composite were characterized by FTIR, UV-Visible and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The thermal stability was determined by TGA/DTA. The copolymer and copolymer nanocomposite with CuO were found to be thermally more …

Bile Tolerance Activity of Probiotic Bacteria (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria)
Abstract: Twenty two strains of each probiotic organisms Lactobacillus (LAB) and Bifidobacteria (BB) were isolated from the faeces of breast-fed infants at the University of Putra, Malaysia. Mann Rogossa and Sharpe (MRS) and Trypticase Phytone Peptone Yeast extract (TPY) were used as selective media for the isolation of these organisms. Resistance to bile is an important characteristic that enables probiotic organisms to survive and grow in the intestinal tract. Six LAB …

Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Murraya koenigii Leaf Extract and Their Antibacterial Potential
Abstract: The eco-friendly and green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was done by using the extract of young leaves of medicinally important plant Murraya koenigii (Curry Leaves). This method was very simple and rapid multiplication. The green synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by FTIR and X-ray diffraction (XRD). To identify the compounds responsible for reduction of silver ions, the functional groups present in plant extract were investigated by FTIR analysis and …
