Toxicological Evaluation Of Two Nigerian Refinery Effluents Using Natural Biomonitors
Abstract: Abstract The present study aimed to evaluate the toxic effects of two Nigerian refineries’ effluents using natural bio-monitors. Standard physicochemical analysis, toxi-chromo test using mutant E. coli and sub-chronic animal toxicity testing with emphasis on tissue heavy metal accumulation, biochemical parameters and histopathology, were adopted during the study. The physicochemical results revealed that the two effluent samples are highly polluted although PH sample was more polluted than the Warri sample. …

A Review on Comprehensive Therapy of Ascites Cancer
Abstract: Ascites cancer is a condition in which there is a fluid accumulation in the peritoneal cavity due to diseases like liver disease, heart failure, renal disease and malignancy. Approximately 50% of all cirrhotic patients develop ascites cancer every year. The average survival after development of malignant ascites is only about 5 months. The most common symptoms of Ascites are recent weight gain, increased abdominal girth and dyspnoea. The development of …

Arsenic Induced Oxidative Stress and Its Possible Reversal by Chelation Therapy
Abstract: Arsenic (As) is a metalloid listed in group Va of the periodic chart. It exists in nature in the oxidation states +V (arsenate), +III (arsenite), 0 (arsenic) and −III (arsine). In the aqueous environment inorganic arsenic appears commonly in the oxidation states +V and +III as arsenous acid (As (III)), arsenic acid (As (V)), and their salts. Chronic and acute exposures of arsenic leads to cancer, cardiovascular disease (hypertension and …

Morphine: A Pharmacological Perspective on Its Cancer Pain Management
Abstract: Morphine continues to be a key treatment in managing cancer pain because of its strong pain-relieving effects and established clinical history. Despite the emergence of alternative opioids and pain management therapies, morphine continues to be widely prescribed, particularly in palliative care settings. However, its use has been accompanied by concerns regarding tolerance, dependence, and adverse effects, which complicate long-term administration. This review explores the pharmacological aspects of morphine in cancer …

Protective Effects of Phyllanthus amarus and Sida acuta Extracts Against DoxorubicinInduced Toxicity in Chick Embryo Models
Abstract: Chemotherapy remains a cornerstone of cancer treatment, yet severe side effects, including cardiotoxicity often limit its clinical application. Doxorubicin, a widely used anticancer drug, is particularly associated with dose-dependent toxicities that impact the heart, liver, and kidneys. In search of complementary approaches to mitigate these adverse effects, this study evaluates the protective potential of hydro-alcoholic extracts from Phyllanthus amarus and Sida acuta, two medicinal plants with known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory …

Phytochemical Screening and Biological Activity of Pomegranate Extracts
Abstract: Pomegranates are renowned for their abundance of bioactive compounds that exhibit potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, making them a subject of growing interest in natural medicine. This study aimed to compare the biological activities of ethanolic extracts derived from different parts of the pomegranate plant—specifically, the bark, peel, and leaves. A comprehensive investigation was conducted to evaluate their phytochemical composition and assess their antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. The …

Review on Histological Effect of Lead on Liver and Kidney
Abstract: Our environment can be polluted by environmental toxins which are chemicals and other materials produced largely from industry and its products. There are large numbers of environmental toxicants which are potentially harmful to health. These large numbers of environmental toxicants can be divided into three major categories (heavy metals, air pollutants, and pesticides) and they are commonly studied environmental toxicants. Environmental toxins can be entered into the body by various …

A Comprehensive Review of Antioxidant Activity of Bhringraj (Eclipta alba) : An Indian Ancient Herb
Abstract: Eclipta alba, commonly known as Bhringraj, is an herb widely utilized in traditional Indian medicine (Ayurveda) for its diverse therapeutic properties, particularly in promoting hair growth, enhancing liver function, and improving overall health. Among its numerous biological activities, the plant’s antioxidant potential has garnered significant interest in modern phytochemistry. Oxidative stress, caused by an imbalance between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the body’s antioxidant defenses, is a key contributor to …

Cadmium Accumulation in Different Tissues and DNA Content Alteration in Cat Fish (Clarias batrachus) Exposed to Lethal Concentration of Cadmium
Abstract: In the present study, the acute toxicity experiment was conducted to evaluate LC50 of Cadmium chloride (CdCl2) on Clarias batrachus which was found to be 450 ppm for 96 h. Clarias batrachus (average length of 8.5 ± 0.4 cm and the average weight of 13.5 ± 0.393 g) was exposed to sub-lethal concentration (140 ppm) and lethal (450 ppm) concentrations of Cd for 14 days. The Cd accumulation in tissues …

Attenuation of Doxorubicin-induced Hepato- and Nephrotoxicity by Proanthocyanidins from Myrica nagi Bark in Wistar Rats
Abstract: Due to dose-related toxic effects, doxorubicin, a very potent and often used anti-cancer medication, is largely limited. The current research investigated the protective impact of Myrica nagi bark (PMN)-isolated proanthocyanidins on hepato-induced doxorubicin and nephrotoxicity in Wistar rats. The animals were subdivided into six classes of five rats each. Group I got PMN (200 mg/kg, p.o.) for 21 days, Group II received Doxorubicin (DXR) (60 mg/kg, i.p.) once, 48 h …

Protective Role of Sulforaphane against Multiorgan Toxicity in Rats: An In-vivo and In-vitro Review Study
Abstract: Sulforaphane [1-isothiocyanate-(4R) -(methylsulfinyl) butane] is a natural dietary isothiocyanate produced by the enzymatic accomplishment of the myrosinase on glucopharanin, a 4-methylsulfinylbutyl glucosinolate contained in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, and cabbage. Exploring of this compound against various oxidative degenerative diseases such as hepatic, nephro and cardiac diseases is growing because of its anticarcinogenic and cytoprotective properties. In several invivo and invitro experimental paradigms proved SFN and its compounds …

Deciphering the Roles of Estrogen Receptors and 27-Hydroxycholesterol in BC Progression
Abstract: Breast cancer (BC) ranks among the top causes of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. Many risk factors of BC are linked to estrogen. Experiments of Beatson in 1896 show the role of steroid hormones as major determinant in BC. Action of steroid hormones is mediated by their receptors including Estrogen receptors (ERs). ERs are part of a subfamily of ligand-regulated transcription factors. Their primary role is to translate hormone signals …
