Performance Evaluation of Kevlar-Sisal-S-Glass Hybrid Composites with Ceramic Fillers for Structural Applications
Abstract: This study examines the mechanical properties of hybrid composite laminates reinforced with Kevlar, sisal, and S-glass fibers, and incorporating ceramic fillers—silicon carbide (SiC) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3)—within an epoxy matrix. The hand lay-up method was utilized to produce the laminates, ensuring a uniform fiber stacking sequence and including 10% filler material. Two composite variations were synthesized: one incorporating SiC and the other Al₂O₃, and both underwent tensile, flexural, hardness, and …

Fabrication and Mechanical Characterization of Hybrid Natural Fiber Reinforced Composites using Ferromagnetic and Graphite Fillers
Abstract: The past few years have seen a lot of interest in the creation of hybrid natural fiber composites because of their lightweight properties, environmental friendliness and their potential use in structures. The hybrid composite laminates in the current study were produced by the hand lay-up process by blending the natural fibers with the functional filler materials. Three types of composite structures were created and these are Natural Composite Material (NCM), …

Recent Advancements and Layering Techniques in Nanoparticle-Reinforced Hybrid Composites: A Comprehensive Analysis
Abstract: This review examines the advancements in nanoparticle-reinforced fiber composites, focusing on natural fibers, synthetic fibers, hybrid composites, and fiber metal laminates (FMLs). Nanoparticles such as SiO₂, TiO₂, Al₂O₃, and graphene, introduced at 0.5–3% volume, have significantly enhanced mechanical, thermal, and wear properties. Comparative studies reveal that hybrid composites reinforced with 1–2% nanoparticles show a 20-30% increase in tensile strength and a 15-25% improvement in thermal stability compared to non-reinforced composites. …

Performance Analysis of GLARE Composites in Aerospace Engineering
Abstract: The fuel consumption of an aircraft is largely governed by its payload, which emphasizes the continuous demand for advanced lightweight structural materials to enhance the lift-to-weight ratio and improve overall fuel efficiency. Fiber Metal Laminates (FMLs) have emerged as a novel class of hybrid materials that combine alternating layers of thin metals with fiber-reinforced polymer composites, thereby offering mechanical properties superior to those of the individual constituents. Among the different …

Viscoelastic Behavior, Interfacial Mechanics, and Reliability of Polymer Interlayers in Laminated Glass Composites: A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: The laminated glass systems are regarded as hybrid polymer–glass composites where the viscoelastic behavior of polymer interlayers mostly controls mechanical response. These interlayers (polyvinyl butyral (PVB), ionoplast, ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), etc.) have time-, temperature- and rate-dependent properties which significantly affect shear transfer, energy dissipation, and fracture resistance. But the baseline polymer-relevant processes at the molecular and interfacial level are to a large extent unknown [1]. This review provides a materials-focused …

Interfacial Engineering of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Laminates Using Functionalized Graphene Nanoplatelets: Experimental and Numerical Study
Abstract: Current research work studies the influence of amines(–NH₂) and carboxyl(–COOH) functionalized graphene nanoplatelets on the mechanical and thermomechanical behavior of unidirectional hybrid composite. Composites having different graphene concentration from 0 to 0.7 wt% were fabricated, characterized and analyzed for multiple testing - tensile testing, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Tensile testing indicates better elastic modulus and tensile strength due to efficient load transfer between nanoparticles …

Bio-Derived TPS–Lignin Hybrid Composites Reinforced with Modified Coir and Plantain Fibers for Eco-Efficient Structural Applications
Abstract: This study develops bio-derived polymer composites using a thermoplastic starch–lignin (TPS–lignin) matrix reinforced with alkali-treated coir and plantain fibers for sustainable load-bearing applications. The TPS–lignin matrix was formulated using cassava starch, glycerol, and 10 wt% lignin, while coir and plantain fibers were surface-modified using 5 wt% NaOH to enhance interfacial compatibility. Composite laminates were fabricated with varying fiber loadings (10–40 wt%) through melt-mixing and hot-press compression. Tensile, thermal, morphological, and …

Hydrothermal modification of carbon fiber fabrics by ZnO nanorods for mechanical strengthening of CFRP laminates
Abstract: Hexagonal ZnO nanorods were produced on plain woven carbon fiber using a two-step seed-assisted hydrothermal procedure. By varying the process parameters such as molar concentrations, number of seeding cycles, and growth duration at a controlled growth temperature of 90 °C, it is feasible to produce ZnO nanostructures with a range of morphologies, including nanowires, hexagonal nanorods, and nanoflowers. The developed morphologies were examined using field emission scanning electron microscopy and …

Enhancing Mechanical Performance in Reinforced Hybrid Composites using Silicon Carbide and Aluminium Oxide Fillers
Abstract: Hybrid composites are becoming useful because they have better qualities than regular composites. This study examines the conventional properties of composites that utilise SiC and Al2O3 as filler components. Kevlar, S-glass, and sisal fibers at 90° and 0°, followed by additional layers of S-glass and Kevlar. To make sure that the material qualities were the same throughout, the resin and fibre layers were arranged in an alternating pattern. Mechanical testing …

Machine Learning Optimization for VARTM Carbon Polymer Laminates
Abstract: Vacuum-assisted resin transfer moulding (VARTM) is a key low-cost, out-of-autoclave process for manufacturing large-scale carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates crucial to aerospace wings, wind-turbine blades, marine hulls, and automotive structures. Unpredictable resin flow often leads to voids, dry spots, and race-tracking defects, resulting in 27.9% scrap rates and lengthy, costly trial-and-error design cycles. Although surrogate models provide rapid impregnation predictions for simple flat-plate geometries, vision-based monitoring is limited to idealized …
