Monitoring the Structural Health of RC Beam Lap Splices using Wave Propagation and PZT Sensors
Abstract: This paper describes the use of piezoelectric sensors in a wave propagation-based Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) method to identify lap splices in steel reinforcing bars. Straight and lapped steel bars with lap lengths of 10° and 20° were used for the experiments. Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) transducers were employed, one of which served as an actuator to produce stress waves and the other as a sensor to record the signals …

Bio-Inspired Polymer Composites for Artificial Cartilage Replacement
Abstract: The rising cases of osteoarthritis, traumatic injuries, and degenerative joint diseases are also putting pressure on the new material that is durable, biocompatible and mechanically resilient to act as artificial cartilage. The normal articular cartilage is composed of collagen fibers, protein glycids and water in the interstitium. These elements provide it with excellent load bearing quality, lubrication and wear resistance. Due to the limited self-repair capacity of cartilage and the …

The Principles and Applications of Structural Symmetry in Natural and Engineered Systems: A Comprehensive Review
Abstract: Structural symmetry is a fundamental constraint across scientific domains, dictating the stability, functionality, and efficiency of systems from the subatomic to the macroscopic. In physics and chemistry, symmetry is mathematically defined through Group Theory, specifically point groups (e.g., Cnv, Oh). These groups govern molecular orbital interactions; high-symmetry configurations, such as the icosahedral C60 fullerene, achieve optimal energy distribution and structural resilience. In Structural Biology, symmetry is an evolutionary strategy for …

Heteroatom modified carbon dots (N, P, K): synthesis, surface functionalization, and prospects for soil‑fertility enhancement
Abstract: Heteroatom‑functionalized carbon dots (H‑CDs) have emerged as a class of zero‑dimensional carbon nanomaterials offering tunable optical, electronic, and catalytic properties through controlled nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium doping. This review highlights the chemistry and chemical‑technology dimensions of N‑, P‑, and K‑doped carbon dots (N‑CDs, P‑CDs, K‑CDs), focusing on their synthesis strategies, surface functionalization, and structure–property relationships. Conventional routes such as microwave‑assisted pyrolysis, hydrothermal carbonization, and one‑pot solvothermal methods are discussed, with …
