Effect of Risk Priority Number Values for Multiple Effects in Maintenance Optimization
Abstract: In this paper, authors describe an optimization framework for finding optimal maintenance policies in continuous process operations and analyze and quantify the reaction of different variables on optimal maintenance schedules. A necessary idea behind maintenance optimization is that of life-cycle costing, where the total cost of design, building, maintenance, is considered over the entire life span of the system or structure in question. The system’s effectiveness measure is introduced which …

Prediction of Surface Roughness in Boring Operation on Mild Steel using Taguchi Approach
Abstract: Surface quality is one of the specified customer and technical requirements for machined parts. There are many cutting parameters that have an effect on surface roughness, but those are difficult to quantify adequately. In a finished boring operation, many parameters such as cutting speed, feed and depth of cut are known to have a large impact on surface quality. In this paper, experimental work on a Jig boring machine has …

Incomplete Information and Expected Performance Characteristics of Heat Engines
Abstract: In this paper, a connection between Bayesian statistics and the optimal performance characteristics of thermodynamic heat cycles is proposed. In particular, the subjective ignorance about internal energy scales of the working medium, quantified as a prior distribution leads to an expected behaviour of heat cycles which shows some remarkable thermodynamic features. It is shown that efficiency at maximum work is closely related to Curzon-Ahlborn (CA) efficiency. This efficiency usually appears …

Determination of Gatifloxacin in Human Urine by Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry
Abstract: Gatifloxacin (GTF) is an antibiotic of the fourth-generation fluoroquinolone family that inhibits the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. A reliable, sensitive and selective isocratic reversed phase liquid chromatographic-tandem mass spectrometric (LC-MS-MS) method was developed to determine gatifloxacin (GTF) in human urine. GTF, in urine after solid-phase extraction with SPE cartridge, was analyzed on a C18 column (Symmetric 3.5 μm; 75×4.6 mm i.d) interfaced with a triple quadrupole tandem …

Development and Validation of HPTLC Methods for Estimation of Trimebutine Maleate in Pharmaceutical Formulation
Abstract: A simple and rapid high-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method was developed and validated for quantitative determination of trimebutine maleate in single dose formulation. Trimebutine maleate was chromatographed on silica gel 60 F 254 TLC plate using methanol–toluene (8:2 v/v) as mobile phase. The plates were developed to a distance of 8 cm at ambient temperature. Trimebutine maleate was quantified by densitometric analysis at 271 nm. The method was found to …
