Comparison of Stiffness of Skin - Simulations vs Experimental
Abstract: Minimally invasive surgeries are the most elusive, yet highly demanded subset of surgeries which requires precise knowledge of the pertinent patient. Compared to conventional surgeries, minimally invasive surgeries are characterized by less pain, low risk of infection, lesser scarring, etc. In the status quo, doctors use intuition through experience to determine the parameters for surgery such as the force required to cut, size of cut, depth of cut, etc. With …

Finite Element Analysis of Thin Shell Loaded at the Center
Abstract: Thin rectangular shell structure with clamped edges subjected to concentrated load at the center is modeled as symmetric structure using ANSYS. The shell structure is examined with different length and width combinations. The SHELL181 element is used to model this structure. In general, the results show good agreement with mechanics of materials’ solutions or design tables’ results. A convergence study of the shell structure shows that 10000 elements are sufficient …

A Critical Appraisal of Bhagna (Fracture) and Its Management in Ancient Indian Surgery
Abstract: AbstractFractures are one of the common surgical conditions in the orthopedics and many of the new techniques are developed for the management as per the condition. In ancient Indian surgery Acharya Sushruta described extensively in Sushrutasamhita Nidana and Chikitstastans about fracture, its etiology, classifications and various modalities of management and also termed this condition as Bhagna. In ancient times, Bhagnas were commonly seen in wars or violent attacks by wild …

Transport Mediums for Avulsed Tooth: A Review
Abstract: AbstractDental avulsion is a consequence of injury that results in the complete displacement of a tooth from its alveolar socket. When dental avulsion occurs; immediate replantation at the trauma site is the ideal procedure for maintaining the viability of PDL cells. However, immediate replantation is rarely achieved. The type of storage medium used for avulsion affects the prognosis of tooth replantation. As a result of the critical role of these storage …

Congenital Dislocation of Hip Treated by Salter's Innominate Osteotomy
Abstract: Sixteen patients with congenital dislocation of the hip were treated with a classic technique of Salter’s osteotomy, reduction of dislocation and to stabilize, K-wire fixation was used and Iliac Bone Graft was placed at osteotomy site. The patients were aged between 1.6 Years to four years. After a mean follow-up of 16 months (range 3–24 months) all patients had full bone healing and complete incorporation of Iliac Bone Graft with …

Is Bone Graft Possible without Limit in Length for Nonunion of Ulna Alone?
Abstract: Background: When either the radius or ulna is united, and the other fails to heal, bone graft and bridge plating can be a choice to treat nonunion of the radius or ulna alone. The length of the bone used to fill the bony defect, however, has not yet been found in terms of biomechanics or biology for healing. The purpose of this study was to find the length of bone …

Is tibial expert nailing biomechanically more stable compared to intramedullary nailing for tibial fractures?
Abstract: Background: Fractures of the tibia and fibula are relatively common and have been recognized as serious and debilitating injuries, because its surface is subcutaneous throughout most of its length, open fractures are more common in the tibia than in any other major long bones. To avoid complications of operative treatment in association with these characteristics of the tibia, intramedullary nailing has been widely introduced for the tibial diaphyseal fractures, and …

Isolation and Characterization of Rhamnolipid from Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Assessment of Biofilm Disruption Potential
Abstract: Biosurfactants are microbial metabolites bearing typical amphiphilic structure of a surfactant. This study is aimed at isolation and characterization of Rhamnolipid (RL) biosurfactant from Pseudomonas aeruginosa MTCC 2488. Characterization of biosurfactant was assessed by oil displacement test, foaming test, thin layer chromatography (TLC) and antimicrobial activity for the same was evaluated against planktonic/sessile microbes including Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans. Studies on Biosurfactants from Petroleum Contaminated Soil to Check its Application in Cosmetics
Abstract: Biosurfactant is basically known as surface active molecules, synthesized by different microorganisms. In the present study, biosurfactant producing strains PD1 and PD2 were isolated from the petroleum contaminated site, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat, India. The isolates were screened by oil displacement and hemolytic methods. The optimization of different parameters was done with the aim of increasing product. Waste substrates were also used to reduce biosurfactant production cost. The surface tension reduction, …

Comparison of Lateral and Medial Plate Fixations of Talar Neck Fracture: A 3D-Finite Element Analysis
Abstract: Background: Talar neck fractures are rare, but challenging injuries, because the bone has unique anatomy, and its blood supply makes it difficult to stabilize the fracture and is likely to cause posttraumatic or postoperative complications. Thanks to development of appropriately sized plates, outcomes of plate fixation of talar neck fractures have been improved compared with screw fixation. Although some studies have demonstrated no difference between screw only fixation and screw-plate …

Trauma of Survival and the Politics of Memory in Emile Habiby's The Secret Life of Saeed: The Pessoptimist
Abstract: Emile Habiby’s the Secret Life of Saeed: The Pessoptimist (1974) presents one of the most innovative and politically complex literary responses to the Palestinian Nakba and its enduring consequences. Through a distinctive fusion of satire, irony, absurdity, political allegory, and fragmented narration, Habiby departs from conventional representations of trauma and resistance. Rather than portraying Palestinian survival as a heroic or triumphant process of recovery, the novel presents survival as an …
