The Dental Pulp Cap and Pulpotomy: Healing Procedures or Just Plain Magic?
Abstract: Mesenchymal stem cells in the dental pulp are multi-potent progenitors with the ability to differentiate into many different cell types including odontoblasts that function in the formation of reparative (secondary) dentin. However, reparative dentin is a two-edged sword to the pulp; it is necessary to ‘wall-off’ a pulp exposure or pulpotomy, but at the same time, it compresses the pulp in its finite living space causing inflammatory and necrotic changes. …

Preserving Papaya Pulp with Potassium Metabisulfite: A Study on Prolonging Shelf Life
Abstract: Papaya is a highly perishable fruit with a shelf life of only 3 to 6 days under tropical conditions, leading to significant postharvest losses. This study aimed to preserve papaya pulp for subsequent use in product development .Pulp was extracted from “Indian Red Lady Variety” of papaya and treated with potassium metabisulphite (KMS) at concentrations of 500, 1000 and 1500 ppm. The treated pulp was stored at room and refrigerated …

Review on Increasing the Kappa Reduction in Oxygen Delignification Stage at Pulp Mills
Abstract: The use of oxygen delignification in bleached kraft pulp mills to reduce the lignin content of pulp prior to final bleaching is increasing worldwide. However, oxygen treatments are normally limited to less than 50% lignin removal to avoid excessive loss of pulp strength potential. More selective oxygen delignification processes are required which can extend lignin removal beyond 50% while maintaining final pulp quality. Work reported here has shown that pulp …

Internal Resorption in the Dentin-Pulpal Complex: An Etiological Link to the Metabolic Acidosis of Diabetes
Abstract: The etiology of internal resorption is not by bacteria or caries but most likely initiated from chronic pulpal inflammation (i.e., chronic pulpitis) following intrusive injury to the dental pulp by one or more of the following means: (1) Traumatic injury (i.e., the most likely etiology) which often involves the oral cavity and teeth. (2) Chemical injury may be by elevated dose fluoride use or from caustic products used in bleaching. …

Dental Pulpotomy and the Public Health
Abstract: From a public health and disease prevention standpoint, tooth retention and oral health (on an individual basis) are the keys to decreasing morbidity and delaying mortality in the human lifetime. Root canal therapy is expensive and time consuming. When faced with the necessity of endodontic treatment for cosmetics, people will usually “find the money” to prevent extraction of an anterior tooth. However, molar root canals are even more expensive and …

The Dental Pulp: Vital Core of Tooth Functionality
Abstract: Dental pulp, an intricately specialized mesenchymal tissue, possesses limited regenerative capabilities attributable to the unique anatomical arrangement and the post-mitotic nature of odontoblastic cells. The process of complete pulp amputation, subsequent disinfection of the pulp space, and the insertion of synthetic materials results in the substantial loss of dentin, leading to enduring consequences such as a non-vital and structurally weakened tooth.Nevertheless, a beacon of hope emerges in the form of …

Comparative Evaluation of the Use of LSTR with Double Antibiotic Paste Versus Zinc Oxide Eugenol as Obturating Material in Primary Teeth Pulpectomy
Abstract: The management of infected primary teeth is a vital aspect of pediatric dentistry, with the primary objective being the retention of the tooth in the oral cavity until its natural exfoliation. Preserving the health, structure, and appearance of primary teeth is essential for ensuring the correct eruption and alignment of permanent teeth. Pulpectomy has traditionally been the preferred treatment for primary teeth with irreversible pulp damage. Traditionally, Zinc Oxide Eugenol …

Endodontic Considerations: Physiology of the Accessory Canals of the Dental Pulp
Abstract: Access to endodontic therapy by the general population is often limited by the high expense of these procedures (i.e., sometimes requiring the expertise of a dental specialist in Endodontics). The segments of the endodontic apparatus (i.e., periapical complex, accessory canals, and root canal space) with their unique qualities as to spacial relationships, composition of microbial flora, immunological considerations, and host factors, function together leading to the success of initial endodontic …

Dental Pulp Stem Cells Derived from Wisdom Teeth as Multitarget Biological Modulators of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease: Mechanistic Insight and Translational Perspective
Abstract: Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are chronic, progressive neurodegenerative disorders with complex pathogenic pathways such as neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, synaptic degeneration, and reduced neurotrophic signalling. Despite the large amount of research, the pharmacological treatments in use offer only symptomatic relief and cannot significantly prevent or slow down disease progression sufficiently; new pathogenetic treatment strategies are necessary. In recent years, stem cell-based approaches have gained interest as potential therapeutic …

Identification of Moisture Content in Paper Industry Using PID Auto-Tuning
Abstract: The maintenance of removal of moisture content in pulp is one of the major challenges in paper manufacturing process. In some paper industries, the above process is carried out using open loop method. This method uses more labor to monitor and control the process parameters such as moisture and temperature. Also the accurate maintenance is not possible and it takes more time for tuning the process parameter. So the closed …

Clinical Practice: The Differential Diagnosis of Dental Pain
Abstract: In clinical dental practice, patients often present with pain in the oral cavity. While some oral pain may be generalized in nature, the clinician has to consider other factors that involve pain and discomfort. Many symptomatic teeth do not need endodontic treatment – on the contrary, they have undiagnosed occlusal problems, caries, fractures or referred pain. For the teeth needing endodontic treatment, this paper provides several modes of diagnostic methodology. …
