Real life experimental investigations that involve natural variables are essential and necessary in determining the performance characteristics of systems that depend on them but they are not easily repeatable under the same conditions. The alternative approach is the modelling and simulation of such systems. This work however, is concerned with the experimental investigation of the performance characteristics of thermosyphon solar water heating system using an electrically simulated collector. Heating rate against flow-velocity, heating rate versus temperature difference, temperature difference against flow-velocity, tank temperature variation with time and comparison of insulation materials were investigated. The results obtained showed that: the flow-velocity increases linearly with heating rate, dQ/dt. The flow-velocity also increases linearly with temperature difference ΔT, temperature difference ΔT increases linearly with the rate of heating dQ/dt and tank temperature increases linearly with heating rate, dQ/dt of the water.
