The objective of this paper is to find defects in forging process. Causes for surface cracks are discussed and remedies for the surface crack defect will help to improve the quality of forging product. This review paper emphasizes on finding the various causes and effects of defects which affect manufacturing process to reduce rejection rate. Crank shaft is important part of automobile. Surface crack is one of the defects found more in forging of the crank shaft. So, to find causes and effects as well as the remedies of surface cracking in crank shaft are given importance.
