Abstract

The difficulty of using high fiber raw materials and ways to improve their nutrient availability is always a hot topic. However, fiber is functionally important for poultry performance, health, and welfare. Although some fiber is indigestible, it plays an important role in the digestive system. It influences gizzard function as well as digesta passage rate. The latest researches precisely recommend 3–4% crude fiber for poultry for a greater period while 5% crude fiber could be applied for commercial layers. Providing enough fiber to laying hens has been shown to minimize feather pecking. The study also presents technical options to fiber impacts such as improvements in poultry and livestock and nutrition management also reduces the feed cost. However, we concluded that 10% replacement value of maize with wheat offal resulted in optimum growth performance of the broiler chickens.
