Abstract

The present study deals with the toxicity of copper sulphate on behavior, hematological and biochemical parameters of Mrigal Cirrhinus mrigala. Copper sulphate was prepared and characterized by using SEM, FTIR and XRD. The physic-chemical characteristics of water sample were analyzed before the experiment. The sub-lethal analysis on Cirrhinus mrigala in different concentrations such as 10–40 and 50 ppm of copper sulphate were used for a period of 96 h. Based on the median lethal test (LC50), sub-lethal test on Cirrhinus mrigala were conducted with 1/100th (T1), 1/50th (T2) and 1/10th (T3) respectively for14 days and behaviors of the fish were recorded. After 14 days, hematological parameters such and biochemical parameters such as protein, carbohydrate and lipid was estimated in gill, muscle, and liver of Cirrhinus mrigala. The SEM images of copper sulphate show that the particles are small, uniform size, and almost spherical in nature. FTIR spectrum of copper sulphate was analyzed in the range of 500–3500 cm -1 . XRD diffraction peaks are indexed as 34.014° (002), 56.523° (111), 69.234° (204), 67.002° (202) and 68.393° (113). Hematological parameters such as WBC, Polymorph Neutrophils, Hemoglobin, and RBC decreased and lymphocytes, MCV, MCH, MCHC, and platelets increased with increasing concentration of copper sulphate. Biochemical parameters such as protein, carbohydrate and lipid in gill, muscle, and liver of Cirrhinus mrigala were gradually decreased with increased concentration of copper sulphate when compared to control.
