Carbon-based Quantum Dots: Synthesis, Properties, and Biomedical Applications. Research & Reviews: Journal of Physics. 2022; 11(2): 6–8p.Due to their superior and distinctive characteristics, carbon-based quantum dots (CQDs), a newly discovered class of carbon nanomaterials, have caught the attention of scientists as potential rivals to semiconductor quantum dots. Furthermore, the controllability of CQDs' unique physiochemical properties is due to surface passivation and functionalization. This article provides an update on the most recent developments, properties, and synthesis techniques for CQDs, as well as on their various benefits in a range of applications (between 2013 and 2016). CQDs are a novel class of fluorescent carbon nanomaterials that exhibit optical properties similar to quantum dots and exhibit high stability, good conductivity, low toxicity, and environmental friendliness. Due to their robust and controllable fluorescence emission characteristics, which enable applications in biomedicine, optonics, catalysis, and sensing, carbon quantum dots have drawn a lot of attention.
