Abstract

Nanotechnology has been advancing to the fabrications of new materials with unique properties. A unique property that is size dependent to emerging nanomaterial attracts the synthesis and manipulations of matter at nanoscale. Nanomaterial comprises of nanoparticles, nanowires, nano composites, nano discs, nanostars, nano flowers, nano rods, and quantum dots. The structures and shape of these nanomaterials depends on synthesis methods, substrate temperature, concentrations and stimulus. In this research, emphasis is given to synthesis of carbon quantum dots. This nanomaterial is endowed with different synthesis methods. However, a green synthesis method is given attention due to its ecofriendly, varied properties, and more economical. Hence, the synthesis procedures, materials, characterization techniques are briefly discussed. Hence, the mechanical, electrical, optical properties of CQDs characterized by XPS and FEEM described. The green synthesized carbon quantum dots are proven for many applications including drug delivery, cell imaging, therapy, sensors and bioelectronics.
