Abstract

Transfersomes are one of the novel targeted drug delivery system which includes hydrophilic molecules. Transfersomes are a type of liposomes which consists of phosphodidylcholine and an edge activator.  The elastic characteristics of Transfersomes enabling it to bend and penetrate through tiny holes that is much smaller than their own size. Transfersomes has various advantages like good solubility, greater bioavailability, and better penetration through the stratum cornea through intracellular route or transcellular route. Transfersomes are better than other micelle solution because of their flexible nature and the presence of water filled core. There are various methods to formulate Transfersomes like thin film hydration technique, modified hand shaking method, homogenization method and centrifugation method. Transfersomes can be evaluated through vesicle size distribution, zeta potential, entrapment efficiency, drug content, degree of deformity, ability to penetrate and stability studies. Its composition makes it safer & more effective than others. Medication release can also be regulated in this method of administration in accordance with the needs.
