Abstract

Mucormycosis is the third invasive mycosis caused by a growing number of members of the Mucorales; but recently, Rhino-Orbital-Cerebral Mucormycosis has been frequently reported in individuals with COVID-19. The affected areas must be surgically removed to inhibit the spread of illness. Due to the surgical removal of infected areas, individuals with Rhino-Orbital-Cerebral Mucormycosis may develop speech and swallowing issues. Along with speech and swallowing issues, hearing loss was also reported in a few individuals with Rhino-Orbital-Cerebral Mucormycosis following a COVID-19 infection. An adult with a history of Rhino-Orbital-Cerebral Mucormycosis post-COVID-19 infection was evaluated in the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, Dharwad, Karnataka, India. Speech evaluation results revealed speech sound disorder with oral dysphagia and audiological evaluation results revealed mild hearing loss in the right ear and moderately severe to severe hearing loss in the left ear.
