Abstract

Fungi are eukaryotic organisms that are found everywhere on Earth. Usually, the optimum conditions that are required for a fungus to grow are acidic pH range of 3–4 and temperature of 25–35 °C. But recently, researchers have found some strains of fungi that are sensitive to acidic pH and low temperature of 25–35 °C whereas they are resistant to basic pH and high temperature. These strains include the species of genera Candida—Candida auris. These conditions are also responsible for multidrug resistance in species and cause numerous harmful diseases in human beings. Due to these noticeable exceptional characteristics of Candida sp., it has gained importance in researcher’s mind. In the present review paper, a search on the literature related to data on fungi including C.auris was done using search engines such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct and NCBI. The literature focused on general characteristics of fungi. A novel species of Candida, its general characteristics along with its sensitivity towards pH and temperature, other environmental factors and multidrug resistance have also been reviewed. The pervasiveness of infections caused by C. auris is the utmost area as it affects various parts of the body causing harmful diseases. A new multidrug- resistant strain of C. auris was also investigated and discussed in the reported data. The present review emphasized on emerging strains of Candida sp., as they can be a cause for the next pandemic.
