Pharmacological, Characterization and Utilization of Ginger

Abstract

Ginger also known as Zingiber is the most important species used here, as India is the largest producer of it. Rhizome is the most important part of this plant which is used, having 50% carbohydrates, 6–8% free fatty acids and volatile oils like palmitic, oleic, linoleic acids as well as oleo resins, other amino acids and proteins. It is most important flavouring agent which is used worldwide. Ginger has many properties like hypoglycaemic, cholesterolemic, cholesmintic, uteroactive, prophylactic, good cardiotonic, and has antiplatelet and anticoagulant activity. Besides this, ginger has herbal use which includes properties like carminative, diaphoretic and antispasmodic. So, it can be said that Ginger can be used as a medicine as it has lots of therapeutic usage.
