Abstract

Among oil crops, linseed is the third important commodity next to sesame (Sesamumindicum L.) and noug (Guizotiaabyssinica Cass.) in Ethiopia. Testing the adaptability of a variety over diverse environments is commonly evaluated by the degree of its interaction with different environments in which it is grown. An evaluation experiment was conducted in three districts, namely, Bule (Gedeo zone), Dara (Sidama zone) and Hosanna (Hadiya zone), Southern Ethiopia, during 2018 and 2019 main cropping seasons with the objective of evaluate and select, adaptable and acceptable linseed varieties. Six released linseed varieties were grown in randomized complete block design with three replications. Based on the present study result, the performance of all the tested linseed varieties was found to be superior in productivity as compared to the national average. However, based on the combined data, varieties Kuma, Yadenno and Bekoji-14 gave higher yield respectively. Therefore in the future, it is essential to demonstrate high yielding varieties to the farmer for production through extension and demonstrations.
