Abstract

We report the structural and optical properties of porous anodic alumina (PAA) membranes synthesized using anodization technique, which were subsequently annealed at various temperatures up to 1000°C. The influence of annealing temperature on the structural aspects and photoluminescence (PL) properties of PAA was investigated. XRD analysis of the PAA confirmed the amorphous nature of the synthesized PAA membranes. The structural transition of the annealed templates from amorphous to ɣ-Al2O3 was demonstrated. Structural aspects of PAA membranes were studied using Image-J software. Photoluminescence (PL) measurements indicate the presence of a blue band in the wavelength 350 to 600 nm. There were two peaks corresponding to F+ and F centres in the PL emission spectrum. These were attributed to the co-actions of the oxygen vacancies of synthesized PAA membranes. Keywords: Porous anodic alumina (PAA), anodization, annealing temperature, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL) Cite this Article Ramana Reddy P, Suchitra SM, Devika M et al.
