Diversity and Evenness Measures of Insects Inhabiting Calotropis procera from four Study Areas of North 24 Parganas and Hooghly District of the State West Bengal
Abstract: The α-diversity found at Ichhapore, North 24 Parganas, near site of human interference, is moderate in number (20 different species) compared to other sites on same plant. Here 3 eudominant, 5 dominant, 7 subdominant, 5 recedent and 0 subrecedent species were found. The cause of eudominance of 3 species may be for adaptation for every environment. From the comparison of different β-diversity indices show high value in data collected from …

Effect of Solid Waste Leachate on the Quality of Underground Water Around Ruhueli Dumpsite in Rumuomoi Community, Rivers State, Nigeria
Abstract: This study investigated the impact of open dumpsite leachate on groundwater quality by examining the physicochemical and microbiological properties of groundwater within the vicinity of a dumpsite in Ruhueli-Rumuomoi community, Rumuigbo, Rivers State, Nigeria. Groundwater samples were taken from three different boreholes in the study area at a distance of 30 m, 60 m and 90 m from the dumpsite. The results of the physicochemical parameters revealed that pH ranged …

The Comparison of Microwave Single Extraction and Sequential Extraction Method for the Fractionation Analysis of Arsenic and Mercury in Saline Sodic Soil
Abstract: The present study investigates the chemical partitioning of arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg) in saline sodic soil samples (SS) from Jamshoro, Sindh Pakistan. The development of Microwave single extraction (MSE) technique based on the reagents used in the BCR three-step sequential extraction scheme (BCR-SES) for partitioning As and Hg in SS. Using CRM BCR-483 as a certified reference material and the standard addition method, the validity of the procedure was …

Past, Present, and Future of Historical Ecology
Abstract: Since the first half of the twentieth century, the phrase 'historical ecology' has been used with varied interpretations. Four academic disciplines have contributed to the study of historical ecology: history, ecology, geography, and anthropology. Although everyone seems to agree that historical ecology is concerned with the historical link between nature and human civilization, this field of research lacks a consistent strategy, institutional foundation, or common publication outlet. Historical ecology's history …

Invasive Fish Species in India: Challenges, Threats and Impacts
Abstract: There are 31 invasive alien fish species introduced in India for aquaculture purposes, as well as over 600 varieties of ornamental aquarium fishes. Invasions of exotic freshwater fishes have had a negative impact on fish biodiversity. The estimated annual average production of alien species fit for human consumption amounts to approximately 18.2 to 34.5 percent of the annual average production of marketable fish cultures. Many more changes are expected as …
