Comparative Study of Cold Formed Steel Sections with Hot Rolled Steel Sections
Abstract: Structural steel has become the best alternative for concrete in present construction industry. Hot Rolled steel Sections (HRS) available in market have standard shapes and sizes where as Cold Formed steel Sections (CFS) are produced in various shapes and sizes as per the needs of customer. A comparative study of cold formed sections and hot rolled section with respect to its axial load carrying capacityas a column is attempted. Hot …

A New Hyperbolic Shear Deformation Theory for Flexure of Thick Simply Supported Beam
Abstract: A new hyperbolic shear deformation theory for flexure of simply supported thick or deep beam, taking into account transverse shear deformation effects, is developed. The number of variables in the present theory is same as that in the hyperbolic shear deformation theory. The governing differential equations and boundary conditions are obtained by using the principle of virtual work. The trigonometric function is used in displacement field in terms of thickness …

Design of Steel Plate Shear Wall with Opening for Steel Building
Abstract: Steel plate shear walls have been used more and more in the steelstructures to resist earthquake and wind forces. This system offersseveral advantages as compared to the other usual lateral load resistingsystems. Steel saving, speed of erection, reduced foundation cost, and increased usable space in buildings are some apparent advantages ofthe steel plate shear walls. Steel plate shear walls also provide majorstiffness against building drift for the hi-rise buildings. This paper …

Effect of Silica Fume and Granite Powder on the Ratio of Mode II to Mode I Fracture Energies of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete
Abstract: The paper presents the results of an experimental investigation which assesses the effect of silica fume and also granite powder on fracture of steel fiber reinforced concrete under Mode I and Mode II loadings. Tests have been conducted on new notched beam specimens under pure shear (proposed in earlier paper of the authors). The test specimens made from concretes in which partial cement replacement (10%) by (1) silica fume and …
