In this paper, photovoltaic cell with compound parabolic solar concentrator has been studied. The interior surface is covered with the reflector. The use of photovoltaic thermal system in combination with concentrating reflectors has a potential to significantly increase power production from a given solar cell area. The absorber of the combined photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collector under investigation consists of a module of solar cells for generating electricity, compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) to increase the radiation intensity falling on the solar cells. The photovoltaic thermal (PV/T) technology is a system that uses work fluids to remove heat for use from PV cells. The length and width of the concentrator is 1.2 and 0.5 m. As per case study given, the solar radiation intensity is 800 w/m2, aperture area is 0.6 m2 and inlet temperature is 20 , for a given concentration ratio; 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3. For this concentration ratio, for different outlet temperatures 30, 40 and 50°C, we checked the thermal and electric efficiency. As per the case study findings, optimized value of concentration ratio is 3, and this concentration ratio gets the highest thermal and electric efficiency. In this study, we choose a new CPC-based photovoltaic thermal system design with a U-type pipe as collector. The U-type pipe avoids the temperature gradient on the whole absorber and on every block cell, and simultaneously produces electricity using the same temperature. Keywords: CPC-PV/T, electricity, thermal, solar concentrator, photovoltaic moduleCite this Article Patel Jigar S., Shah Ronak R.
