The main objective of this research work was to optimize the performance and emission of four stroke, single cylinder, indirect injection, water cooled diesel engine operating on palm oil and diesel blend. The use of vegetable oil as a fuel in diesel engine causes some problem due to their high viscosity compared with conventional diesel fuel. Various techniques and methods are used to solve the problems resulting from high viscosity. One of these techniques is fuel blending. Non edible vegetable oil like palm oil is blended with diesel in various proportions like 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, and 100%. Engine test have been carried out with the measures of engine parameters like brake power, brake specific fuel consumption, brake thermal efficiency and emissions such as CO, HC, NOx and CO2 to the behaviour of diesel engine running on palm oil and diesel bland to find the optimum blend which gives improved engine performance and emission characteristics.
